Sample at Collins Pub in Seattle. Black pour with a medium light tan head that diminishes slowly. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of chocolate, roasted nuts and coffee. Medium body with flavors of roasted coffee, chocolate malt and hops. The finish is roasty with a lingering dark malty aftertaste. Above average overall.

Tap at Uber, pours black with a finger or so of deep tan head. Smell is mild yet rich, coffee smell. Taste is roasty, coffee comes out. Thick but drinkable, almost no alcohol present. Heavy body. Decent.

mcberko (17178) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 3, 2012
On tap at Uber Tavern, pours black with a slight reddish tint and a small beige head. Aroma of pepper, toasted malt and sweet cocoa. Flavour of primarily roasted malt, medium hops and slight espresso. Full-bodied and standard for the style, though very well-made.

Black, tan head. Coffee and chocolate, and boldly so. Just a smidge hot, but super roasty and very tasty.

Oakes (17274) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 21, 2005
On tap at the brewery

Near black. Light chocolatey, peanutty aroma. Toasty, lightly chocolatey character, a little meaty/smokey. Thick and sweet but neither rich nor cloying. Not the most imperial of stouts, nor the most focused, it’s still worth a pint.

IndianaRed (4545) - Boise, Idaho, USA - NOV 21, 2005
On Tap at Rockfish Black with tan thin head and lacing. Sweet dark roasted aroma. Flavor was dark chocolatem charcoal and easy on the hops. Expected and hoped for a heavier feel but quite tasty I thought.

Rockfish doesn't always have this on tap, so it was a pleasure to find it being served when I showed up one afternoon. This imperial stout poured black like my soul. Couldn't even see any light filtering through the motor oil. Creamy head that had to settle a bit. Very smooth taste - reminiscent of what a pre-pubescent dogfish head stout would be before it turns into liquid salvation. Flavors of coffee, slight plum and date and chocolate. Slight bitterness. Very tasty - hides the high ABV.
