August mahogany color and crisp head that thins toward the center. Modest bouquet of cherry and apricot. Flavor of apricot with a some dryness on the finish. Hops have mellowed out of the background, leaving a nice medley of malts on the palate. Enjoyable sweetness, but not cloying. Only a trace of bitterness, and it works best that way. Perhaps a touch of candied pineapple. after4ever (8025) - Mukilteo, Washington, USA - APR 22, 2008
Draft at Uber. Pours nearly opaque dark brown with slim gray rim. Nice lacy sheets on the way down. Very mild nose--a little bit of toffee, caramel, brown bread. Medium, creamy body. The toffee, caramel, and bread come back for the mid-palate and join bits of nut, dark toast, and tiny hints of dark pitted tree fruit. Mild nutty finish. So sweet that some time on its ass in the cellar would do it some good. BlackDonald (1126) - Gulf Shores, Alabama, USA - APR 18, 2008
GABBF ’08 - This barleywine was crazy, nice complexity, rich dark fruits, dates and raisins, brown sugar and cinnamon. The only thing that kind of irritated me was the hop profile was a little weak and somewhat soapish, but the maltiness is delicious. SuzyGreenberg (1603) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAR 9, 2008
snifter @ beverage place barleywine bacchanal - 06 vintage and 07 vintage side by side; very different in appearance with the 06 much lighter than the 07; 06 was more clear with slight white head with the 07 more hazing and long lasting head; aromas on both were similar with fruits, alcohol and some musky-ness to them; the 07 was much more a delight to drink but kind of curious how the two could be so different bitbucket (2165) - Kirkland, Washington, USA - FEB 24, 2008
On tap at the brewpub. Pours slightly hazy dark amber with an off-white ring of foam. Peach and pine aroma. Full body. Chewy taste of caramel and butterscotch. Dry pine and citrus finish.

Murky red amber with a little head. SPicy and bitter sweet. Hop profile ranges from hints of soap to tons of bitter citrus and pine. Thick but not cloying. glkaiser (1214) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAR 3, 2007
On tap at BBP. Dark amber small head. Very sweet malty beer with moderate citrus hops. Alcohol isn’t hidden at all in this one...really enjoyed this. MrDick (381) - San Francisco, California, USA - JUL 16, 2006
Draft at brewpub in March 2006. Pours a hazy amber with a sweet, syrupy and malty aroma. Flavors are similar to the aroma. There is some hints of butterscotch and citrus. The malt is nicely balanced. Good traditional barleywine and very drinkable. Oakes (17668) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 16, 2006
Draught, BPP5000 (6862) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - APR 23, 2006
Hazy bright amber. Thick, malty aroma with light peachy notes in a classic pale barley wine aroma. Strong alcohol and massive malt. Young but balanced - certainly more so than my first sample of this back in January, which was basically malt syrup. Warming, peachy. Looks like this will continue to improve for a year or two.
Draught 05’ vintage @ Brouwer’s Café during Hard Liver 2006: Dirty caramel, moderate to large foamy head, very nice lacing. Nose of alcohol, slight hop, otherwise fairly non-descript. Fairly heavy citrus rind on the tongue, low malt profile, with alcohol not being as strong as suggested by the nose. Does trailer off with a bit of alcohol heat tho. Moderate body and mouthfeel. Finish is fairly hot... alcohol seems to have become too apparent at this stage.   Simmer down naw!
