Draught 05’ vintage @ Brouwer’s Café during Hard Liver 2006: Dirty caramel, moderate to large foamy head, very nice lacing. Nose of alcohol, slight hop, otherwise fairly non-descript. Fairly heavy citrus rind on the tongue, low malt profile, with alcohol not being as strong as suggested by the nose. Does trailer off with a bit of alcohol heat tho. Moderate body and mouthfeel. 2005 vintage at the HardLiver BW fest. A decent sized tan head sits atop of this medium amber colored Barlewine. Fairly clear, medium bodied. 2005 Vintage - Hazy amber appearance, with a fluffy creamy head. Served slightly too cold to pick up major aromatic notes. Sweet bready cereal malts. A definite malty presence and barely detectable hop presence. Fairly sraight-forward barley wine (the sticky/sweet/alchohol variety). Big chewy body yields sticky molasses, definitive woodiness, and the light burn of alchohol. Weird metallic and burnt hops in the nose, some burnt grains as well, but covered by a light cherry and fruit presence. Nicely balanced, very drinkable, with a sweet and light hop flavor. No off-flavors. Nothing killer, just plain drinkable even if it doesn’t set any records.
