A dark fruit aroma with a hint roasted maltiness. Deep dark brown body with a modest off white head. The taste is a smooth dark fruit maltiness like the aroma. Despite it's richness it has a relatively clean dry finish with only minimal after taste or at least less than you might expect. An exceptional brew from and exceptional brewer. tightslice (1542) - Redwood City, California, USA - OCT 5, 2017
Bottle at Facebook in Menlo Park, CA. Aroma is caramel, stewed plums, tin, some whiskey and tobacco. Taste is dark fruits, spiced rum, sharp whiskey, some sweet bread. Has German style malt vibes, maybe some English old ale with mild boozy glaze. Easy drinking for a barrel aged. phaleslu (11178) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - SEP 18, 2017
12 oz. bottle, I think purchased locally but I can't remember where exactly I got it. 2015 vintage. Pours a deep, dark, cloudy chestnut brown with a small beige head that settles into a ring and thin film. Notes of toasted malts, nuts, wood, tobacco, caramel, chocolate, and banana chips. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet, malty, smooth mouthfeel. Not much alcohol heat. Drinks like an old ale, albeit a small one. Very dark color with a fine tan head. Ok intensity in the aroma. Medium body and a mellow carbonation level. Felt a bit thin actually and a bit to sweet. Dark malt, oak, mild whiskey, toffee and some fruity notes.Sledutah (8157) - Utah, USA - APR 6, 2017

Pours clear dark brown with a small beige head, light lacing. Aroma of dark fruit, toffee, woody and vanilla. Flavor of toasted malts, nutty, rye whiskey and raisins
Pours a nice dark brown, with a tan head. Aroma is malty with notes of wood. Taste is rich, lots of malt, and of course the barrel aging. This is a solid brown ale with the added benefit of wood aging. Thumbs up. KansaiBeerLvrs (5654) - Kyoto, JAPAN - MAR 3, 2017
Anchor Barrel Ale 7.5%
A cola brown with a thick luscious beige head. It has a very chocolatey aroma with some woodsy notes.
The taste is solid giving you roasted malts, tannic wood, a fleeting whiskey essence and nuttiness. I bought this from about 650¥ at Asahiya meaning for Japan it gives you good bang for your buck.

Very smooth. JPDIPSO (6325) - Wauwatosa, USA - FEB 22, 2017
Mahogany color with a cherry hue when held to the light. Modest sized head of light tan bubbles. Sweeter scents with dark fruit (dates and prunes), light molasses, brown sugar and a hint of bitter cherry. Sweet start. Some toasted to light roasted malt. Lightly tart. Some dark chocolate, and pepper. A well put together brew.

Bottle. Musty rye whiskey, molasses malt, and hay aroma. Black with moderate tan head. Moderately sweet molasses/chocolate malt and moderately bitter herbal hay flavor. Nice body and balance. Rye whiskey aftertaste. Very tasty.
