Pours a nice dark brown, with a tan head. Aroma is malty with notes of wood. Taste is rich, lots of malt, and of course the barrel aging. This is a solid brown ale with the added benefit of wood aging. Thumbs up.

Anchor Barrel Ale 7.5% A cola brown with a thick luscious beige head. It has a very chocolatey aroma with some woodsy notes. The taste is solid giving you roasted malts, tannic wood, a fleeting whiskey essence and nuttiness. I bought this from about 650¥ at Asahiya meaning for Japan it gives you good bang for your buck. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

JPDIPSO (6223) - Wauwatosa, USA - FEB 22, 2017
Mahogany color with a cherry hue when held to the light. Modest sized head of light tan bubbles. Sweeter scents with dark fruit (dates and prunes), light molasses, brown sugar and a hint of bitter cherry. Sweet start. Some toasted to light roasted malt. Lightly tart. Some dark chocolate, and pepper. A well put together brew.

Bottle. Musty rye whiskey, molasses malt, and hay aroma. Black with moderate tan head. Moderately sweet molasses/chocolate malt and moderately bitter herbal hay flavor. Nice body and balance. Rye whiskey aftertaste. Very tasty.

"5SO" = bottled on September 15, 2015. Recent purchase as a single 12floz bottle for $1 (St. Louis area, had once before summer 2016). Poured into a tulip glass. Dark mahogany in color and a one-finger head with lacing. Smell is pretty pleasant consisting of baked, burning sugars, and a hint of bourbon. The barrel aging hits my palate with a mild bourbon flavor to an otherwise old ale style beer. The barrel aging appears to distract from the base style as it adds a hotness and an intensified aftertaste. The result is a decent, but incoherent beer. Consumed 01.18.2017.

Bottle from Seijo Ishii. Pours a really dark brown, a little light at the edges, low tan head. Rye whiskey aroma, raisin, roasted malt, brown sugar. Has a spicy rye and whiskey barrel flavour but without the alcohol feel. Plum and raisin. Easy drinking, lively carbonation, a little spice lingering. Good stuff.

Bottle in my mothers basement
Pours a very dark brown with a big tan head that leaves a nice lacing on the glass.

The aroma is all sorts of oak and whiskey and roast... and bananas. Pleasant & robust smelling with light hints of sweetness & less subtle hints of booze.

The flavor is pretty well composed really, some nice dark chocolate & light sweetness with a mild enough whiskey character & some light fruity notes. The booziness is pretty well employed & compliments the beer well.

This is just fine

12 oz bottle, bottled on September of 2015,hope this beer ages well- Pours very dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is barrel, toffee, caramel, very rich with a bit of oxidation. The taste is toffee, caramel, the oak is very noticeable, little bourbon. Not a bad beer, i wish i had a slightly fresher bottle.
