Brewmaster Mark Carpenter’s unique recipe for Brekle’s Brown—a tip of the hat to our first brewmaster—looks to both the past and the future.
Mark’s special blend of roasted malts, inspired by the all-malt brown ales in Anchor’s brewing archives, gives Brekle’s Brown its coppery brown color and its unusual depth of flavor—richness and complexity without heaviness.
For brewing and dry hopping, Mark has chosen a single, American hop variety called Citra. The subtly entrancing flavors and aromas of this distinctive new hop perfectly complement the unique maltiness of Brekle’s Brown.
Ingredients: Water, barley malt, hops.

Ottima birra decisamente particolare! Brown, duona schiuma nocciola abbastanza persistente, sentori leggermente caramellati e limonati, citrosi. Si ritrovano anche nel aroma. Questa combinazione è decisamente particolare, molto picevole e risulta essere anche una birra fresca, a mio avviso parecchio estiva! Da provare indubbiamente!

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle. Pours a darker brown with a large light khaki colored head of foam. The aroma is sort of piny and doughy with some sweet brown sugar notes coming through. I didn’t expect this beer to be as hoppy as it is, but damn, it’s quite bitter. I like it... for 6%, it drinks very light on the palate. If I had to guess blindly, I would have put it at closer to 4.5%.

Appearance is dark amber. Aroma is a sweet malt. Taste is a little hoppy with some nice bready malts. Overall very solid.

On tap at Cannery. Totally brown coloured with some bubbly head. Slight roast and malty aroma. Lacey. Licorice, fresh, balanced and decent drinkability. Above average for style.

The beer in the glass is dark brown with fine cream crown. It smells malty-roasty, slightly bitter and chocolaty. Starts very hoppy-bitter with some chocolate and roasted malts. The middle part is also hoppy-bitter, slightly caramel-chocolatey with some coffee. Goes into a coffee-roasted finish with a lot of chocolate!

12 fl.oz. Brown colour with a beige head with an average to low duration and good lacing. Aroma is malty, toasty, caramelish and berries. Flavor has notes of toasted malts, candy sugar and red fruits. The final is dry and with a moderate duration. Carbonation is medium. Body is medium to high.

Pretty tasty. Aroma is lacking some but the citra hops are really prevalent throughout which is interesting for a brown. Unique indeed. Not too shabby!

This brown has a wonderfully malty flavor. It doesn't tastes to heave but has a complexity none the less. A very good week made brown. It gets my seal of approval. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours beautiful brownish dark mahogany red with beige head. Robust aromas of toasted malt and a strange fruitiness make the beer hard to decipher. The taste is good, interesting but strange as well. The grain is prominent as a dark red near brown ale but there is a strange tart fruit flavor of cherries, apples, and light tropical fruits. The mouth feel it’s very smooth a bit grainy and dry in the finish. Strange lingering flavors as well, a little cardboardish, which may not be a good thing. Still simple and very enjoyable.

Draught at the Yard House, Las Vegas, NV
Dark mahogany color, beige creamy head. Caramel aroma (light) and flavor; overall it seems heavily oxidized; correct bitterness.
Weird offer.
