COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewmaster Mark Carpenter’s unique recipe for Brekle’s Brown—a tip of the hat to our first brewmaster—looks to both the past and the future.
Mark’s special blend of roasted malts, inspired by the all-malt brown ales in Anchor’s brewing archives, gives Brekle’s Brown its coppery brown color and its unusual depth of flavor—richness and complexity without heaviness.
For brewing and dry hopping, Mark has chosen a single, American hop variety called Citra. The subtly entrancing flavors and aromas of this distinctive new hop perfectly complement the unique maltiness of Brekle’s Brown.
Ingredients: Water, barley malt, hops.

allllllllllright???? .. when i first heard of this, i really wanted to try this- but now thats its open and in front of me, not to happy .. . odd smell, like berry and old raisins .. . medium headring .. light lacing .. . hank hill is such a bitch .. . light mouth, good in that sense .. . some molasses, light berry skin, and a slight offness- not good .. . this was a huge letdown .. . i know anchor as being not spectacular at anything but always solid- this was crap .. . . I stayed up all night to see where the sun went. Then it dawned on me.

Sample from a bottle at Microfest 2012. Pours a somewhat hazy chestnut color with a big, frothy off-white head. Notes of hazelnut, caramel, brown sugar, citrusy hops, wet tobacco leaves, and sweet bread. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a soft, bready mouthfeel that ends with a dank leafiness. Good brown.

Brekle’s Brown has a very thick, creamy, tan head and a clear, bubbly, brown appearance, with some lacing left behind. The aroma is of sweet, brown bread and a flash of hops; the taste is likewise of sweet brown bread, brown sugar, mild hop bitterness, and some caramel candy aspects. There were even some chocolate notes with this one. Mouthfeel is medium, and Brekle’s Brown finishes refreshing, semi-dry, and easy drinking. It’s a most excellent beer. RJT

On keg at The Southern Bar. Pours a beautiful dark ruby brown colour with a decent light tan head. Aroma of treacle, caramel, biscuity malt and alcohol. Similar flavours with moderate carbonation, light CO2 and a foamy mouth-feel. Tasty with a lingering toffee apple quality.

another entry from Anchor that leaves a bit to be desired. a decent brown, but for the money, there is better out there. flavor had a sort of skunky, dusty flavor in the front, like old dried out hops. not very pleasing. ill pass on this one next time.
