San Francisco’s celebrated Old Foghorn Ale has been virually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer, in one of the world’s smallest and most traditional breweries, since 1975. Our barleywine-style ale, the first of its kind in modern times in the United States, has a luscious depth of flavour that makes it ideal for sipping after dinner. It is made with top-fermenting yeast, fresh whole hops, and "first wort", the richest runnings of a thick all-malt mash. Old Foghorn is "dry hopped" in the classic ale tradition and aged in our cellars until it attains the perfect balance of malty sweetness, estery fruitiness, and exquisite hop character, for which it is known throughout the world. A ruby red ale with little carbonation and a warm finish.

From Mar 2006 Poured from bottle(room temp) a dark gold with very little head of foam at first but it grows into about a 1 inch layer that dissipates slowly but stays for the entire session. The smell is very fruity with some malt notes also hitting my nose. The taste is *very* malty sweet at first sip with some strong fruitiness(major plum notes) that I mentioned in the smell. Subsequent sips give me more of the malt but it's not as sweet and the hops start to do their bit making for a better balance than you'd think after the initial taste. Oh, and it's quite warming for the 8.8%abv this BWSA carries so 1 of these and I'll be done for quite a while. Bottom line: A good, malty interpretation of an American BWSA that I will pick up from time to time because it *does* seem to break away from the mainstream. I recommend it.

Small ass bottle..( old notes from August 2017 @ the "pro brexit , please get a visa BBq) my friend Seamus from northern Ireland with dup sympathise suggested to some eu citizens @ said summer bbq that brexit was about social liberty and an argument occurred. I agreed with Seamus..I sat back with a bottle of this and let them bicker. Headless and murky piano brown brew. Nose of dark fruit, booze and caramel. Tastes the same, like chunky booze melting my brains. I think this was too young and hote.

Copenhagen 28/9 2017. 35,5 cl bottle from Meny. Little Chubby bottle. Very botanic label with Corn Ears and some hops laying around. Pours clear amber with a red hue and off-white bubbly head. Settles as thin patchy and flimsy layer of foam. Aroma is intense and bitter-sweet with the sweetness in the front seat. Sugary caramel intermingling with strong, sourish notes. Figs and hints of sherry. Soft carbonation and medium thick palate. A little sticky. Flavor is heavy sweet and vinous. Light sour bitterness and a little spiciness. Aftertaste is sweet and boozy. Sweet, heavy, vinous brew with spicy after taste.
