COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s celebrated Old Foghorn Ale has been virually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer, in one of the world’s smallest and most traditional breweries, since 1975. Our barleywine-style ale, the first of its kind in modern times in the United States, has a luscious depth of flavour that makes it ideal for sipping after dinner. It is made with top-fermenting yeast, fresh whole hops, and "first wort", the richest runnings of a thick all-malt mash. Old Foghorn is "dry hopped" in the classic ale tradition and aged in our cellars until it attains the perfect balance of malty sweetness, estery fruitiness, and exquisite hop character, for which it is known throughout the world. A ruby red ale with little carbonation and a warm finish.

Wow, such a beer! Reddish color with s medium to short beige head. Fantastic aromas to bubblegum, banana, nuts and rhum. Deep and medium taste to honey, nuts, jelly and brown sugar. Bitterness and sweetness very well balanced and structured. High body. An exceptional beer.

335 ml bottle at Getränkefeinkost Lüneburg. This bottle has 9.4% vol. Pours with a clear ruby-brown color and a small white head. Nice nose of rasiins, sweet malts, dried fruits, molasse, vanilla and old barrel wood. Taste is much more dry than exxpected. The fine aroma of the nose gets a liitle bit lost. Taste is fruity, with some burnt sugar, some herbal flavors and a slightly bitter (tannin) dry finish.

Przyjemny aromat. Owoce, lekka cierpkość, kandyzowany cukier. Jest trochę nut chmielu. Całość pachnie dość ostro, estrowo. Jest lekki alkohol. Później się układa. Jest nuta owocowa, lekko słodka. Pachnie jak dobre barley wine. W odczuciu lekko likierowe, geste. Nie jest mocno wysycone. Trochę kwaskowe w smaku. Jak dla mnie mogło być bardziej gęste, więcej ciała.

12oz bottle from De Bierkoning, Amsterdam and poured into a snifter on 4-Aug-2017. Clear reddish amber with a thick beige coloured head. Aroma of sweet malt, fruit and hops. Full body and medium carbonation. Taste is sweet fruit, dominated by burnt banana and caramel. Medium spiced with a sweet, light bitterness to the finish. A heavy dessert beer.

Lasissa sameisen ruskea. Tuoksuu voimakkaasti, mukana mm. toffeeta, taatelia ja luumua. Maku on makea, mutta ei liiaksi. Amerikkalaistyyliin mukana on myös humalaa, mikä tuo tasapainoa.

Bottle. Thick and tasty. Both sweet and bitter. Not my favorite kind of beer, but this is very drinkable.
