San Franciscos celebrated Old Foghorn Ale has been virually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer, in one of the worlds smallest and most traditional breweries, since 1975. Our barleywine-style ale, the first of its kind in modern times in the United States, has a luscious depth of flavour that makes it ideal for sipping after dinner. It is made with top-fermenting yeast, fresh whole hops, and "first wort", the richest runnings of a thick all-malt mash. Old Foghorn is "dry hopped" in the classic ale tradition and aged in our cellars until it attains the perfect balance of malty sweetness, estery fruitiness, and exquisite hop character, for which it is known throughout the world. A ruby red ale with little carbonation and a warm finish.

Wow, get a fire, have a curry and a few ipa , then sit back and relax with this for pudding. Its what winter was made for. Multi layered beer, sweet, with more vanilla coming through as it warms up. A lovely sipping ale.

Kept this bottle in my basement for a pretty good while; picked it up sometime in Feb 2015! After more than two years in the chilly, dark cellar this is just about one of the best libations to ever play upon my tongue. A little smoky and a little oaky, with amazing malt/hop combo, it doesnt get much better than this. Stellar effort, keep em coming, Anchor!

My 2000th rating. 12 ounce bottle. Tawny reddish copper color topped by a small creamy beige head. Rich toasted malt nose hints a dark dried fruit, vanilla and herbal hops. First sip offers sweet malt flavor with notes of raisins, caramel, figs, vanilla and brown sugar. rich and complex. As it warms, it becomes soft and bittersweet with a touch of maple syrup. Warming alcohol notes in finish. for todays standards, this may seem tame as Barley wines go. However, it is a very good example of the style.

Miedziane, klarowne piwo o średnie pianie, ktra redukuje się do zera. Aromat bardzo przyjemny, słodki, mid, rodzynki, toffi, delikatny alkohol. W smaku słodkie, gęste, oleiste, miodowe, owocowe, toffi, ziołowe. Goryczka wysoka ziołowa. Oglnie uwielbiam takie piwa, słodkie, gęste, ułożone skontrowane fajną, mocną goryczką, jedno z moich ulubionych piw, bardzo przypomina mi Quatro od Pinty.

Bottle. Clear red colour, firm tan head, good lacing. Aroma of dried and crystallized fruits, raisins, caramel, light notes of honey. Taste is heavy- sweet and medium- bitter, caramely and bready base, lots of candy fruits, raisins, dried fruits, slightly herbal finish. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is average. Great, sweet, fruity and complex example of the style.

Pite z butelki. Piękna barwa, jasne, rubinowe. W zapachu mocne nuty chleba, słodw, rodzynek i miodu. Super piwo.
