COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s celebrated Old Foghorn Ale has been virually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer, in one of the world’s smallest and most traditional breweries, since 1975. Our barleywine-style ale, the first of its kind in modern times in the United States, has a luscious depth of flavour that makes it ideal for sipping after dinner. It is made with top-fermenting yeast, fresh whole hops, and "first wort", the richest runnings of a thick all-malt mash. Old Foghorn is "dry hopped" in the classic ale tradition and aged in our cellars until it attains the perfect balance of malty sweetness, estery fruitiness, and exquisite hop character, for which it is known throughout the world. A ruby red ale with little carbonation and a warm finish.

UPDATED: MAR 9, 2005 A very accessible barleywine for inexperienced beer drinkers. I love the cool little bottles. The body is a ruddy brown and has a small light colored head. The aroma is brandy, cherries and, of course, malt. The taste is honey, malt and cinnamon. Extremely drinkable. I could down a lot of this. A little light for a barleywine, but still excellent. Tried again after aging about a year. Still a very subtle version of the style. The sweetness has muted and you get a bit more dark cherries in the taste. Soft mouthfeel.

UPDATED: DEC 13, 2017 Aroma: Ripe tropical fruits, caramel, dried figs, rasins. Appearance: Dark copper, rather clear. Dense, abundant head, leaving nice lacing. Taste: Sweet: caramel, figs. Bitter finish. High bitterness, a bit lingering. Full body, medium carbonation. Alcohol hidden.

Suszone owoce, miód, cytrusy, karmel, alkohol. Treściwość średnia z lekkim plusem, trochę likierowej słodyczy. Średnia, krótka goryczka. Średnie do wysokiego wysycenie - niepotrzebne to, trochę drażni.

A nice dark amber/dark red, still slightly transparent. Thin layer of white head that still leaves nice lacing. Quite strong and interesting aroma shows caramel malts, sugar, estery fruitiness and slight alcohol warmth with a resinous/grassy background. Taste follows the aroma closely with sweet malts (caramel, slight honey), some residual sugary sweetness, estery fruityness. Overall surely sweet but nicely balanced by alcohol warmth and by resinous/herbal bitterness in the finish. Medium to dense in body with average carbonation, overall quite soft in the mouth. Complex enough, nicely balanced and easily drinkable with a not too high abv for the style. Good stuff.

Clear orange brown pour with a thin layer for a head. Sweet roasted malts, toffee, caramel, butterscotch, honey, peppermint and mildly hoppy for aroma. Pretty sweet stuff, moderately bitter. Full mouthfeel and soft to medium fizzies. Mouth smackingly sweet, but my oh my, what a treat.

330 ml bottle best before 09/2017. Pours medium brown reddish, small head, not long lasting. Pear, wine grapes, liquor, brown sugar, some whiskey malts, dark cherries. Very balanced taste, malty sweetness with a dry bitter finish. Full bodied, soft to low carbonated, creamy texture. Alcoholic warmth. Very nice.

Barwa ciemno miedziana, piana niewielka.
Aromat śliwek, rodzynek, fig, troszkę miodu, karmel.
W smaku suszone czerwone owoce, karmel, śliwka. Delikatnie słodkie, delikatne kwaśne, z delikatną goryczką. W smaku fantastyczne. Trochę brakuje ciała a alko całkowicie ukryte.
Super pifko.

UPDATED: NOV 5, 2017 Strong malty aroma with hints of cherry liqueur, dried dates, figs, ripe banana. Full body and very low carbonation. Taste: lots and lots of malt, caramel, cherries, dates, some wine and bitterness. Again malt, sweetness and bitter in the long after. Amazing ale overall but a bit to sweet for my taste.
