COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is the thirtieth special ale from the brewers at Anchor. It is available from early November to mid January. The ale's recipe is different every year, but the intent with which we offer it remains the same: joy and celebration of the newness of life. In ancient times, trees symbolized the winter solstice, when the earth with its seasons appears born anew.

Next year I will forego getting an xmas tree and just put a small string of white lights around a six-pack of this excellent holiday offering-- which is becoming quite the holiday tradition for me! (Its better than caroling!) This strong, Pine-laced, porter-ish ale deserves to be served with a stilton cheeseburger with some thick steak fries. It is robust and beefy. Not too fruity, but a definite presence of nutmeg and allspice. Happy Holidays!

Bottle, rated April 29, 2016. Dark brown with decent beige head. Aroma of raisins, brown sugar, caramel, Christmas fruit cake. Sweet flavour which matches the aroma also adding some spiciness. A slightly bitter, malty finish.

12oz bottle, thanks to phaleslu. Very dark brown red color. Thin ring of khaki head, good bits of lace. Really interesting toasty spicy nose. Interesting spice I can’t put my finger on, some chocolate in the nose. Surprisingly little oxidization, just a bit of soy, leather. Lighter body. Kind of mild slick texture. Light carbonation. Moderate sweet taste, kind of light dry. Really interesting experience.

12 oz. bottle from dbsdelight - thanks again, Dan, for this well-rotted garbage! My oldest bottle is now something a year younger. Feels good. This one looks good on the pour- cloudy sort of mahogany brown with a small off-white head that settles into a ring and a little bit of film. The aroma is soy-heavy, with dark fruits, spice, earth, and dark malts. The flavor isn’t quite as umami-forward and tangy, with notes of earth, winter spices, cranberries, tobacco, toast, rusted metal, and wood. Light-bodied, with low carbonation and an earthy, mildly spicy, barely tangy mouthfeel. 12 years and it’s held up okay. Still interesting.

Flaska från systembolaget. Mörk mörk brun kulör med stort ljusbrunt skum. Doft av russin och mörk sirap. Möjligtvis lite soja. Bitterbesk med rostad smakgrund. Julkryddor och kavring. Lättflytande vätska med lagom kolsyra

UPDATED: NOV 14, 2014 Svagdricka? Ganska söt och bra fyllighet. Något drag av granbarr/enbär? Det ger den där beskan som ligger sent i smaken.

"this was one of the first years i really started getting into this beer (2002-present) and i remember the first three being the best, although it’s close every year. the quintessential American Christmas ale."

A- Pours a deep, dark brownish hue with a nice, 2 finger frothy head. S- Sweet, brown sugar notes, hints of raisin. T- Lots of roasted malt, hints of sweet brown sugar that fade off into nothingness. M- Thin with low/medium carbonation D- This may be past it’s prime. Looked and smelled great but carbonation was a little low.
