COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is our special ale from the brewers at Anchor. It is sold only from early November to mid-January. The Ale’s recipe is different every year, but the intent with which we offer it remains the same: joy and celebration of the newness of life. Since ancient times, trees have symbolized the winter solstice when the earth, with its seasons appears born anew.

Editor’s Note: due to the significant similarity in style and strength from year to year (despite potential differences in the exact spice blend), this beer is no longer separated by vintage.

Draught. Pours dark brown with off-white head. Minimal lacing. Aroma is plum and raisins. Brown sugar, vanilla and coffee flavors mixed with some chocloate. Not as good as year’s past. Middle of the road Christmas offering. Aging would probably enhance the rating.

Feb 2018 - 355ml bottle at home in Richmond as 'Anchor Brewing Merry Christmas Happy New Year 2017', 6.7%, BB Sep 2019. Pours an opaque black with a huge foamy brown head that leaves thick streaky lacing. Aroma is yeasty and metallic and also cocoa, little fudgey, milky coffee, chocolate digestive biscuit. Body is rounded, smooth with soft carbonation. Taste is malty, dates, raisins, little metallic, yeasty, breathy figs and nutmeg, mixed Christmas spice. Carbonation is soft in mouth but a little gassy on the stomach. Quite a tasty beer on the whole. Good. (7-4-6-3-14=3.4)

2016 version. Sweet aroma of spices. A lot of stuff in the kind of candied tangerine, ginger bread, cinnamon rolls and cardamon. Very pleasant at all. Dark brown-ish in the glass with a medium head. Taste is semi dry with notes of orange fruit peel, some albedo, spicy back with cinnamon. Finish is bit roasty, beer is minimal overcarbonated, but still different than the other xmas beer stuff.

2015 bottle. All reviews lately are 2016 and later. No date on bottle, except for the 2015 on the label. Shame. If it’s different each year then my thoughts are redundant. It’s pretty good. That’s all I got.

Czarne z czapą beżowej piany. Dość duże wysycenie, piwko syczało sążnie przy nalewaniu. W aromacie mix biszkoptu, anyżu i mieszanki przypraw. Gładki posmak z nutą przyprawowej ostrości na finiszu, pozostawia po sobie garbnikowy posmak, będąc jednocześnie słodkawe.

Sunday, January 14, 2018. 2017 Bottle, 355mL. 6.7%. Purchase ("La Cervoiserie", @Poitiers, FR). Home. A black opaque beer with a big beige foamy head ; average retention ; ok lacing. Roasted, cinnamon(+), caramel notes, prune notes, some licorice. Light sweet, light dry refreshing spicy, bitter note. Medium body, thin texture, soft gaseous, dry refreshing spicy finish. Overall, correct ; slightly disappointing.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aromas of dark dried fruits (plum, black currents); winter/pumpkin pie spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, allspice) aromas are clear but not overwhelming. Color is black; even the edges are very dark brown. Medium sized tan head. Taste is fairly dry and fairly bitter. Medium bodied; carbonation is somewhat lively. Finish is fairly long, with dried fruit, winter spices, carbonation and a dry finish. Overall this is a pretty good beer. It has some complexity with spice, roasted flavors, dried fruits; the overall dryness and lively carbonation work well with beer.

Aroma: spicy and herbal, nutmeg. Appearance: Brown color and creamy head. Taste: spicy, nutmeg, roasted dark malts, spruce, cola, herbal, rather dry. Palate: medium body and medium carbonation. Overall: no idea what should I expect. A decent beer.
