COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is our special ale from the brewers at Anchor. It is sold only from early November to mid-January. The Ale’s recipe is different every year, but the intent with which we offer it remains the same: joy and celebration of the newness of life. Since ancient times, trees have symbolized the winter solstice when the earth, with its seasons appears born anew.

Editor’s Note: due to the significant similarity in style and strength from year to year (despite potential differences in the exact spice blend), this beer is no longer separated by vintage.

2013 vintage. 12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. Appearance is ruby-tinted dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, pine, and some light holiday spices. The aroma gets richer and maltier as the beer warms. Taste pretty well follows the nose, with a fruity taste at the front and the holiday spices at the ends. Very nice, with lots of different tastes and smells. I like it.

Black in color with a dark reddish brown hue. A calico colored head of creamy foam on top. A perfect blend of wintery spices like cinnamon, clove, and dried citrus fruit. Drinks like a black IPA with some roasted barley and a perfect finishing pine forest hop revelation. Christmas on a dreary night is what this ale speaks of. Beautiful, dank, and dark.

Dark brown to black colored, medium+ frothy tan head, not all that lasting. Aroma is of malt, dark chocolate, roasty, spices, aniseed?, toasty, bit bready. Taste is medium sweet malt, chocolate and roasted malt, spices, toasty, some caramel, bready, licorice, light orange peel?, medium roasty bitterness, dryish finish. Medium bodied, soft+ carbonation, bit creamy.

I thought this was a very nice winter seasonal. The warm spices and the rich base beer worked together well. I got lots of clove and some allspice which made me want pumpkin pie or cranberry sauce to go with it.

Bottle from systembolaget. Aroma is deep and thick but no overall master flavour. The apperance, dark with a lovely stout like coffee style fizz. The taste is much darker than most christmas ales, more like a stout. Smoke, dark malts, burnt wood charcol. Not a massive fan of this ale/stout hybrid flavour.
