This is our special ale from the brewers at Anchor. It is sold only from early November to mid-January. The Ales recipe is different every year, but the intent with which we offer it remains the same: joy and celebration of the newness of life. Since ancient times, trees have symbolized the winter solstice when the earth, with its seasons appears born anew.

Editors Note: due to the significant similarity in style and strength from year to year (despite potential differences in the exact spice blend), this beer is no longer separated by vintage.

Pours dark with nice tan head. A little thin, but not watery. Aroma is spicy, smoke and coffee. Flavor is not too sweet, but spicy (herbs, juniper?) with a roasted orange peer taste. Maybe a little gingerbread taste. Good dry finish.

Very good. The nose is so rich, so fruity, so complex. Really smells like a much heavier brew, so an excellent weekday brew. Taste is great as well, but there it reveals the relatively low alcohol a bit. Nonetheless, excellent!

Hatalmas, tarts, barna hab, sttbarna szn. desks, fűszeres illat.

Jouluinen haju, vri syvn tumman ruskea, valkoinen vaahto. Maku hieman vetinen, mutta karvas. Haju makua parempi.

12 oz pour into tulip. Dark, opaque, moderate tan head. Nose is spiced, sweet, gingerbread. Palate is creamy and smooth. Taste echos nose with a dry, bitter finish. Maybe a little flat taste, though.

Incredibly soft mouthfeel makes this a delightful brew! Pours nearly black w/ a big foamy tan head w/ spotty lacing. Has some nice Christmasy spices in the aroma that draws you in. The taste carries some of these spices but its a touch thin which kind of waters down the flavor. The light body is actually quite enjoyable tho! Solid beer!

2014 version. Classy; pretty impressive amount of spices atop a caramel malt nose: allspice, pine, gingerbread, star anise, juniper? Who knows. A flat coke signoff. Little thinner than, but reminds me of, Kerkoms "Winterkoninkske" beer a good thing. Sweetness is balanced out with a slight bitterness (that sort of light end typical of, say, Porterhouse Brewery). I know this is going to sound very Waitrose (up-market UK supermarket), but it does remind of the year Heston Blumenthal did mince pies with pine sugar; maybe its the Christmas thing.
