UPDATED: APR 1, 2014 Little to no head, very dark, alcohol and chocolate? in the nose, very nice. A lot thicker than most of the porters I have had. Nice and chewy but there is something I don’t care for. Nice beer, but nothing spectacular. Orig rate 3/5/02...3.5. Very malty aroma. Huge malt flavor, almost barley wine esk. Hop bitterness is moderate, but malt is just plain huge. Mostly dry, sticky and syrupy. Overly malty sweet, cloying. NJBeerman013 (1054) - Hamilton Twp., New Jersey, USA - MAR 3, 2002
Great porter. Black as midnight. Notes of slightly burnt coffee very evident. Fluffy tan head. A bit robust for my palate at the start but got smoother as it warmed a bit. Cruddler (32) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAR 2, 2002
Excellent beer. Nice split between heavy stouts and those American water beers. Could use a better head. airen99 (20) - Bellevue, Washington, USA - MAR 1, 2002
I was very surprised by this beer. It has a fantastic and complex flavour. Nose is rather soft, with hints of chocolate and wood. Very nice beer. lachrymethod99 (2) - Tennessee, USA - FEB 27, 2002 does not count

Has a little bit of a creamy, chocolatey taste, with a slightly bitter aftertaste. Very little head. I haven't drunk many porters so I can't say much more. SudsMaster (68) - Denville, New Jersey, USA - FEB 24, 2002
Best porter that I have had yet. Thick and full flavored, very rich, although i like the other anchor steams better. If you like porters, definitely give this one a try. TChrome (1481) - North Richland Hills, Texas, USA - FEB 22, 2002
Quite delicious. Very
dark. Nice chocolate malty flavor.
Excellent brew. MOboy (510) - Kansas City, Missouri, USA - FEB 17, 2002
Masterpiece. This is a truly enjoyabe porter. Wonderful chocolate notes and not too bitter. Definately a taste experience if drank along with Mary Jane ;) jbrus (4988) - Delft, NETHERLANDS - FEB 16, 2002
Roasted chocolate/coffee aroma. Black, large light brown creamy head, perfect lacing. Sweet, coffee, malt flavors. Finish is roasted, bitter and long. I love this beer!
