COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Very good porter, not too sweet, just a little bitterness toward the end. A good beer for after dinner with a cigar.

Forgive me if I wasn't as impressed with this as I'd hoped. Creamy, yes - well balanced bitterness, yes, but for some reason, the aftertaste did not agree with me. And I love porters, too. Perhaps I'll give this one another shot given all the hype...

Very nice porter, but so far nothing compares to my beloved Mocha Porter....

One of the best porters in existence. It's a tough call between this and Rogue Mocha Porter.

UPDATED: OCT 21, 2003 dark black colour with a thin and compact head, nice lacing, aroma of dark chocolate, licorice and alcohol, oily, thick, dry malty chocolate finish with a long lasting but somehow rough bitterness

I have to agree with everyone else here: this is one of the great porters. It has just a hint of chocolate, plus a great roasted malt flavor and is not overly sweet - it actually has a nice mild bitterness that seems to result from both hops and the burnt flavors (roasted malts).

Roasted, toasted, rich, bitter, & chewy, with just the right hint of chocolate aroma. Strong mouthfeel. I love the burnt flavor! Abstractly intricate 'Brussels Lace' patterns form on the inside of the glass. Not too overly sweet like many porters. What a great beer!

UPDATED: SEP 26, 2012 Consumed via bottle. This is a very nice porter. It is rich with a nice burnt molasses taste.
