COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

VERY dark brown pour, verging on black, but revealing ruby at the edges when held up to the light. The mocha head laces prodigiously until it settles down to a wispy film for the last half pint. The aroma of rich roasted caramel malts is paired with a herbal hoppiness and figs. The initial taste again reveals the caramel, but this is soon cut into by the leafy hops, which lend a pleasant bitterness to this drink. In fact, this is probably the only porter I’ve had where the hops have been given this prominence. Adding to this the melange of well-meshed traditional porter flavours of roasted malts, chocolate and mild coffee, and you have a winner. The mouthfeel is smooth, with perfect carbonation for the flavour. Dangerously drinkable.

Bottle from Damian. Pours dark black colour with creamy head, nice coffee aroma. Full body, roasted malt, blackberries, figs, chocolate, high on bitterness, long bitter finish with a lot of coffee. Amazing.

Dobrý porter z Ameriky s hodně nasládlým řízem, jemnou, ale přitom hořkou chutí a krémovou pěnou.

January 11th, 2015 - Anchor is a classic brand in California, though mostly for their steam lager. But I’ve noticed shelves are showing off some new Anchor entries, including the Porter, which seems a far cry from the crisp, clean lager of Anchor fame. As I crack open the bottle I’m curious whether the genetics of the Anchor Steam will make an appearance in the Porter, too. To the eye they are distinct brews, the Porter featuring a huge, rich head, choking the admittedly poor choice of a shaker pint. I give the brew some time to settle down, and then check the aroma, where I get a light malty scent and a good bit of cocoa powder and the the distinct smell of pencil shavings. The palate is lighter and refreshing but extremely carbonated, with some milk chocolate and soy sauce, with a distinct but marginal signature flavor of teriyaki sauce as well. As for its lineage back to Anchor Steam, I see it in the mouthfeel, if anywhere, where the low gravity of the beer makes for easy, relaxed drinking.

Pours a deep brown with a medium tan head that lingers. The aroma is a balance between roasted malt, chocolate, nuts, and licorice, with just a slight coffee added to it. The taste is a little dry and has decent bitterness to it. Containing a solid roasted base, this presents a strong flavor trifecta of chocolate, coffee, and caramel. Licorice is readily apparent, and so are hints of raisin. Bitter coffee aftertaste sticks to your palate. Light to medium in body, smooth in texture, and about average in carbonation. Solid in every respect.

bottle at the drunk Monk. pours black, decently sized white head. Smell is roasty, burnt malts, but rather subtile , and a bitter touch. taste is bit metallic/ smoked / plastic dark malts ( all sound bad, but I mean them in a nice way ) rather sharp. very roasty. Still easely drinkable. Aftertaste has a nice, roasty, almost cocoa-like maltyness.

Pours opaque black with a very big, dense head. The aroma is chocolate, dark fruits and surprisingly, iron. The taste is chocolate, coffee, a bit sour from roasted malts. The metallic note is also vaguely present. Medium body, soft carbonation, very smooth texture. Good.

Colosal.

Aanrader.
