2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Poured from a bottle into a tall flute. Golden to orange color and transparent. A thick, 2 inch white head formed and held. The head reminds me of a good pilsner pour.
Smells of light fruit, ripe pear. It really smells like a pils.
Well, as advertised; it tastes bitter. Bitter from beginning to end. Unfortunately that is all there is to it.
Lots of bubbles. Light bodied. It would be easier to drink without all the carbonation.
I applaud Anchor for trying this old technique of the "Small Beer" but maybe there is a reason that most breweries do not make the Small Beer anymore? So, I am torn. Does this beer taste like a Small Beer should or not? I do not know since this is the first one I have had. What is curious is that everything but the color says "pilsner", even though it is an ale. For that reason it is worth trying.
Bottle from old backlog notes. Pours a clear dark golden/light amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have pale bready malts, grainy, light fruit, some bitterness, flavor is bland. bartlebier (4111) - Belchium im Biersgau, GERMANY - AUG 14, 2016
(Backlog 2014 Midwest tour recollected for completeness in tranquility). 650ml buddel, CHI hotel. Bref: earthy tealeaf bitterness remains on dried/spent caramels in this sparted "Orval Vert" version of Anchor Steam, an all-time favourite. Like the Lady Grey dregs in the teapot, watery remains of something basically lovely and well-quenching. Christos (5882) - Arnhem, NETHERLANDS - JUL 9, 2016
(Anchor Small Beer) Tap at Thornbdidge Den Bosch, 250 ml.
Deep orange colour on the body, clear, with a tall and thick white head on top, very good retention.
Weird aroma, with cheesy notes, toffee, caramel and hay.
Taste is mostly malts and grains with some hay too. Mild bitterness.
Medium thin body, okay carbonation.
Nothing special, probably the weakest I had from Anchor. hansvf (915) - - OCT 6, 2015

From draft, poured a clear golden colour with a white head. Nose of
Malts, cereal, citrus, cardboard, metallic notes, and a weak watery mouthfeel. Just a low abv beer

Erg saai. MonsterMagnet (1536) - NETHERLANDS - APR 7, 2015
Tap, sample. Fairly hoppy tasting bitter. Feels watery, no surprise given the abv. Ok. teorn88 (7687) - Rimini, ITALY - FEB 17, 2015
Backlog rating. Bottle from Utobeer, London. It pours a clean golden color with a medium white head. Aroma is grainy, grassy, herbal. Taste is lightly bitter, with notes of herbs, skunky grass, grains, earth. Light bodied with good carbonation. Overall, nothing special really Gerardgathier (512) - - DEC 30, 2014
Currently I am updating my ratebeer with al the beers I drank but was too lazy to rate at the time. I give the scores I gave back than. If I drink the beers again I might re-rate them.
