COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Anchor Summer is the first American wheat beer in modern times. Our first brew of this light and refreshing beer was in the summer of 1984.

Anchor Summer is an all-malt beer, and over 50% of its malt comes from malted wheat. It is fermented with a Triticum aestivum, AKA wheat traditional top-fermenting "ale" yeast because we prefer the clean flavors developed by this yeast. We believe that this style best celebrates the refreshingly light flavor of malted wheat. You may notice that the head on this beer is unusually abundant, with a consistency similar to whipped egg whites. This is due to protein contributed by the wheat.

The brewers at Anchor are proud to have revived not only rich hearty dark beers, but also this light crisp style of a modern American wheat beer.

Wheat malt contributes to an unusual lightness and dryness to the palate, and this—combined with the distinctive flavor of the wheat—makes for a perfect thirst-quenching beverage. It is the ideal drink for beer lovers who appreciate tradition and character in their beer, but also seek a lighter, refreshing style, perfect for warm weather.

I don't consider this the "traditional" summer brew. Most are fairly light. This left me feeling more full than anything. That aside, this was very good. Thick white head with a golden color. As is the case with other summer beers, I noticed a somewhat citrusy flavor with this. Very good.

Can (6-pack), Exxon gas station, Hoover, Alabama.

A nice, refreshing beer with a little more hops than most summer-wheat style beers, but not too biting on the palate.

I’d like to apply a quote from Thomas Pynchon’s Gravity’s Rainbow here -

"Oh, this beer here is cold, cold and hop-bitter, no point in coming up for air, gulp, til it’s all-hahhh."

I loved this brew. Poured a golden straw color with an unbelivably creamy white head. Was very refreshing and had a hint of nutmeg in the aftertaste. Maybe a secret ingredient or maybe just too much insence burning?

Anchor Brewing is well known for outstanding beers and the Summer Beer doesn’t disappoint. from its sem-cloudy golden appearance to its awesome clean aroma, it is another winner for them.
The taste is sooth with an overwhelming drinkability. lightly carbonated and pours with a small head. this is a must try if Anchor products are available in your neighborhood.

Lovely and sunny, quick finish and zesty edge to it. Very easy drinking with nice carbonation. Doesn’t compare favourably to more complex European varieties but it’s not trying to. Does what it sets out to, very very well.

Enjoyed this one on draught at the brewery in San Francisco, back in July 06. The brewery tour was tremendous, and this was the first beer we sampled after the tour. I’ve had this beer a few times in bottle, but this was the first time I had it very fresh on draught, and its was excellent. An American wheat beer by style, this is a tart, refreshing, thirst quenching brew, with good wheat malt character. Anchor Summer Beer pours to a beautiful, bright, pale gold color, with a nice white head, and a good carbonation. The nose is very nice, with some good citrus aroma, paired with some "grainy" wheat malt aroma. The palate is very crisp, with lots of good tart, and grainy wheat malt flavor. This beer finishes with more good tart wheat malt up front, then ends with a touch of citrus, hop bitterness. A very drinkable wheat beer, perfect for warm weather, and a beer you could pound with impunity.
