2/21/15. Sampled during RBWG 2015. Amber pour with a small khaki head, mild lacing. Nice aroma, caramel, dark fruits, brown sugar, balanced with with cognac. Good flavor, smooth, malty, a little toasty nutty aspect, caramel, brown sugar, dark fruits, cognac. Tasty. bytemesis (8384) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - DEC 2, 2016
Bottle, batch 1, thanks to Ben! Pours clear reddish chestnut, medium creamy tan head, nice lacing. Aroma is rich malty dark sugars, dates, molasses, brandy. Flavor is pretty sweet, light plus bitter, rich and decadent. Full body, rich creamy mouthfeel. Surprisingly not hot. This is a sipper, and a dangerous one. jredmond (8284) - New York, New York, USA - JUN 26, 2013
Bottle sampled at THE FESTIVAL 2013 with Andrew, Jay and Kramer. Pours a murky brown body with thin off white lacing. Aroma is heavy booze - some mix between bourbon and cognac, rich caramel, molasses and sweet sugary dark fruits. Mouthfeel is medium and not at all harsh considering the gravity. Flavors of sweet molasses, maple, wood, spice, bourbon and light vanilla. kraddel (8111) - Antwerp, BELGIUM - OCT 8, 2016

Rating #2500! Keg @ CBC. The pour’s deep amber with a tiny head. The nose is red apples, toffee. Rich cotton candy. Some heath bar candy. A bit of toasted nut and wood, general spices. Expressive aromas. The taste is deliciously supple and rich. Lovely thick toffee and caramel. More caramel-dipped red apples. Only mildly boozy. Nice spicy hop accents. Chestnuts. Full body, soft. Never overpowering. You’d never guess this was 17%. Overall, a fantastic beer. For me, it was the beer of the festival. I’m glad to have tried it.

Bottle at ChurchKey. Thanks everyone! Poured a slightly cloudy brown color with an almost non-existent head. Aroma was lots of candy caramel and toffee character, congnac. Flavor is similar, very smooth - almost no alcohol burn, very impressed by this sipper - far too easy to consume though as I found myself returning to this one at least one more time without thinking about the abv implications. after4ever (8025) - Mukilteo, Washington, USA - FEB 8, 2015
750. Thanks, Sean! Much obliged for sure. Pours an opaque dark ebony with a dense and creamy tan head. Big barrel character on the nose for sure, tons of jammy, berried, fruity, slightly vinous quality layered over the top of toasty caramel malt, nougat, soft chocolate, and other sweet notes. Sticky thick heavy body with sluggish carb. No sign of the booze anywhere; truly a magic trick, or a feat of beer engineering, or something. Smooth and creamy--not unlike drinking a cognac that has been transformed somehow into a beer liqueur. So soft and approachable and completely without any hint of boozy sting. Long mild sweet finish. Keg at CPK as ’Anchorage A Deal With The Devil Barleywine’, 17.3%. Very dark purpley brown, no head at all. Looks a little imposingly boozy…and it is. Aroma is sweet toffee, some salted caramel, sherry and bovril umami. Body is quite rich, smooth and oily. Taste is sweet sugar syrup, creamy fruits, not too boozey. Actually it’s pretty drinkable for something so strong. Pretty impressive but a bit on the sweet side for my taste. drfabulous (7941) - Lexington, Kentucky, USA - AUG 26, 2014
22 ounce pour at the Beer Trappe. Big sticky caramel toffee brown sugar barley wine that is pretty awesome at such a high abv. lusikka (7813) - Tampere, FINLAND - MAY 3, 2013
Draught @ CBC2013. Pours a ruby brown colour with a small white head. Aroma of sweet caramel, bread, biscuit amd some tartness. Flavour is very sweet with caramel malts, bread, tart citrus, biscuit and alcohol. Full bodied, slick mouthfeel and a very sweet alcohol finish. Interesting.
