Pours dark brown color with a very good head. The aroma is of oak and sweet cognac. There is notes of vanilla, nutts, figs, toasted bread malts. Tasting, sweet caramel syrup, malts, soft cognac flavor, vanilla, light bitterness, and an enjoyable dark fruit presence. The body is very heavy and thick. It masks the alcohol very well too. The finish is delightful, blending the ingredients and leaves a sweet aftertaste. Overall this was outstanding for being such a big beer. AdmiralVernon (1195) - SWEDEN - JAN 5, 2017

Dark reddish brown with a small tan head. Aroma is sweet malty and fruity with caramel, toffee, dark sugars, prunes, figs, raisins, cognac.
Taste is sweet malty, dried fruity, smooth warming notes. Full bodied, smooth small bubble carbonation, oily texture. Finish is sweet caramel, toffee, figs, raisins, prunes, warming cognac, hints of oak.
Great one, nice blend of malt and dried fruits and well hidden alcohol.
On tap at Brouwer’s Hard Liver 2013. Really glad I got to try this one -- it was something else. Murky, muddy brown, with a tan head. Booze, caramel, some tart cherry, and gobs of brown sugar on the nose. Huge flavor that covers the 17% beautifully -- I really couldn’t believe the abv was that high. So much malt in here -- the flavor just explodes with dark fruits (overripe cherries), molasses, some seafoam candy, maybe a bit of cacao -- unreal that this much complexity came from a single malt. Huge, and very, very tasty -- I’m quite impressed!

Draught at CBC 2013. Lilja (3171) - Malmö, SWEDEN - MAY 7, 2013
Fat på CBC 2013. Ett välbalanserat och komplext öl. Smak och doft av choklad, karamell, romrussin, ekfat, vanilj och tobak. Rund och lent och ligger kvar länge i gommen. Trevlig chokladbitterbeska. _angst_ (4802) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - MAY 10, 2013
Draught @ CBC2013. A total of 3 samples. Pours slightly hazy deep amberish copper with a small brownish golden head that quickly dissipates without leaving any trace on the glass. Smell is sweet and malty with biscuits, caramel, toffee, charred wood, raisins, figs, prunes, cognac, roasted nuts, alcohol, moist tobacco and hints of cocoa powder. taste is sweet and malty with biscuits, caramel, toffee, sweet dark bread, cognac, charred wood, vanilla fudge, raisins, figs, prunes, roasted nuts, hay, moist tobacco and hints of dried cherries and dark chocolate. Mouthfeel is round, smooth, boozy and full bodied. Finish is sweet and very tiny fruity tart with biscuits, caramel, sweet dark bread, raisins, figs, prunes, roasted nuts, charred wood and hints of cognac. Served way to old but as it warmed up the beer revealed itself to be a wonderful, dense, incredibly heavy barley wine. Intense and with a sting of cognac but the 17% are nowhere to be found which makes this a very deceptive beer.
