Draught @ CBC 2013Rasmus40 (20649) - Beder, Aarhus, DENMARK - MAY 8, 2013
Pours dark reddish with a tiny head. Aroma of tart notes, hints of wood, oak and malts. Taste is smooth, malty and wooden with hints of syrup, oak, cognac and vanilla. Finish is malty and warming with loads of wooden oak notes, hints of tartness. Nice, quite balanced and tasty barley wine.
CBC. Hazy brown witha lasting beige head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, dried fruit, wood and alcohol. Flavor is very sweet and rather bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish with warming alcohol. 030513 craftycarl21 (2338) - Seattle, Washington, USA - APR 30, 2014
Bottle at CK, thanks to the crew of regulars including Gene, Travlr, gendev, solidfunk, etc. for sharing this shit! Not a pretty pour; cloudy walnut, minimal head. Nose and flavor, however, are righteously stupendous, with big sweet almond, caramel, New England real maple syrup, booze, and just straight yum. Hilariously reminiscent of the other upper echelon AK barleywine (Arctic Devil). Big, decently hot, but stunning. radagast83 (8065) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - MAY 1, 2014
Bottle at ChurchKey. Thanks everyone! Poured a slightly cloudy brown color with an almost non-existent head. Aroma was lots of candy caramel and toffee character, congnac. Flavor is similar, very smooth - almost no alcohol burn, very impressed by this sipper - far too easy to consume though as I found myself returning to this one at least one more time without thinking about the abv implications. jtclockwork (16581) - , New Jersey, USA - JUN 7, 2014
Etched glass bottle at Nick’s tasting. Pours dark brown. Nose/taste of cognac, oak, dark fruit, toasted nuts, raisin and toffee. Slight alcohol in finish. Full bodied. Delicious.

750 ml bottle to taster. Looks good; semi-transparent hazelnut brown with khaki head that steadily dissipates into thin lacing. Smells good too; sweet and malty (but not cloying) with a nice cognac presence. Tastes like it smells with a great mouthfeel that drinks more like 8% than almost 18%. Some mild hops in there too. Very complex for the simplicity of its malt and hop bill. Excellent beer! bhensonb (15194) - Woodland, California, USA - JUL 9, 2014
750 c&c from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours dark brown with no head. Aroma of brown sugar and brandy. And oak. Full bodied. Flavor is treacle, oak and brandy. Actually has bitter notes - but maybe that’s alcohol. Apropo of that, the heat is well under control. vtafro (7445) - Wayne, New Jersey, USA - AUG 2, 2014
Bottle at goulét brewery bus tour that I brought. Brown pour with tan head. Super sweet, malt and dark aromas. Sweet malt, oak, I guess cognac tones. Very smooth, no ABV in sight. MotherBrother (945) - Aalborg, DENMARK - DEC 3, 2014
Pour murky dark mahogany, with a small tan head.
Aroma of caramel, dark fruits, slight marzipan, barrel, wet wood, slight booze, plenty of barrel. A little heat, but nothing like 17% abv.
The taste is super sweet, with some roast notes to it.
oily n’ thick body, with a semi flat carbonation. ork’ satme!! stoutnick (842) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - FEB 9, 2015
2013 December batch #1 bottle. Dark brown mahogany pour. Aroma of mild spirit, alcohol, oak. Taste is mild hop bitterness and fruitiness up front, then big burnt caramel and brown sugar, mild oak, prunes and dates with a honey sweetness (almost port like). Very drinkable for the high abv. Thick and syrupy. Lovely Barleywine- sweet and delicious.
