750mL bottle from DeLocks in Munster. Pours a murky and opaque chestnut brownish-black, espresso colored head with okay retention. Nose is funky, fruity, some sour cherries, raisins, dark roast, minerals, wood, touch of diacetyl. Mouth is medium-full, dry, tart up front, then bitter and a bunch of fruit and roasted things (barley, coffee, chicory), wine barrel becomes evident on the back end, whiskey barrel at the very finish. The bitterness kind of detracts though as it undercuts everything and lingers. Wondering if cellaring this for a year would mellow that out. Still another solid brew from the Land of the Midnight Sun.

Location: 750 ml bottle from Winooski Beverage, 9/26/15

Aroma: The aroma is dark berries (black, blue, black cherry), oak, and red wine, plus a little plum
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a thin ring of light brown head and mild lacing
Flavor: The flavor is sour fruity, and yeah, pretty much exactly like the aroma would suggest
Palate: Medium-plus bodied, more of a sipper, drinks nicely from cellar temp through room temp
Overall Impression: Another excellent one from Anchorage. Theres a ton of complexity here, most of which seems to come from the barrels and the brett. Im sure the underlying beer was solid too, but those are definitely the dominate flavors here.

Appearance: pours with a smaller tan head that dissipates quickly, the beer is a very dark black, I'm not even seeing colors on the edges when held up to the light Aroma: Pino noir wine, alcohol, funky, perhaps coffee Taste: very interesting, it's sour yet at the same time has a coffee bitterness to it, nestled in there you also get the red grape flavor from the Pino noir aging, alcohol warmth Palate: much thicker and full mouthfeel that I normally find in sours, unique aftertaste is a mixture of red wine coffee and sour beer, soft carbonation Overall: very unique beer, the way the flavors all come thru assertively is impressive, not your typical stout or sour beer, not really easy to drink, I like it overall ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
