Tasted on 7/12/13 from a corked and caged 750mL bottle purchased at Belmont Station. Pours almost completely black with an average tan head that slowly settles into a collar of lace. The nose is prune with coffee, dark chocolate, roast, and a nice red wine vinegar and citrus sourness. The flavor is the same, with all of the flavors nicely melded, and the sourness not really kicking in until the finish. The body is medium and tannic with average carbonation and a long roasted dark chocolate, coffee, and sour red wine vinegar and citrus finish.

UPDATED: SEP 6, 2017 Blackish brown colour with beige head going to the sides of the glass. Aroma has sour red berries, sweet red berries, oak barrel, wooden notes, almost like chocolate, maybe cocoa, red wine, tannin, Brett yeast. Taste has sour red berries, sweet red berries, red wine, tannin, oak wood, cocoa / chocolate, ends in sour dry notes and tannin. Bubbly carbonation with full body. The has an amazingly smooth finish for a sour, though there’s still a ton of conflicting flavors that grow and change as the beer develops. Stellar beer, even when you’re not in the mood for a sour.

It’s never surprising to get funky Brett in a bottle of Anchorage beer, but the Alaskan brewers sometimes knock me off balance with just how much complexity they can bring out. Anadromous did that for me. It has a dark brown appearance and a light brown head that fades quickly. Earthy old oak aromatics and some vinous notes. Taste profile is complex to a degree that’s hard to pin down. It varied with almost each sip. At various tastes and temperatures I got musty wood, barnyard Brett, vinous dark grape, citrus, sour black cherry, blackberry, and aged vinegar. Acidic mouthfeel yet it’s not overwhelming. Anchorage has always had something of a mad scientist slant with how they treat Brett and barrels, but Anadromous seems especially bizarre. I mean that in the kindest way. Black pour with a fuzzy tan head. Cherries, chocolate, tart, light vinegar but not in an off-putting way, acidic, light roast. Medium thin body. Sour and enjoyable.
