glennmastrange (2942) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - JAN 20, 2018
UPDATED: JAN 20, 2018 Bottle. Moderate to heavy toasted oatmeal, burnt and bitter chocolate, light to moderate resin for the hops, light earth for the yeast, with black rum, tar and alcohol in the background. Head is small, frothy turning creamy, brown, with some spotty lacing, and is mostly diminishing. Color is as close to black as you can get. Flavor starts moderately to heavily sweet and lightly acidic and sour, then the long finish is moderately sweet and heavily bitter. Palate is full, syrupy, with a soft carbonation and a moderately alcoholic and sticky finish. Super dense and deep dark Imperial Stout. A slow sipper for sure.

Aromas of whiskey, barrel wood, chocolate, dark malts, roasted wort, fresh coffee, aged dark malts, black licorice, motor oil, soy sauce, earth and tree bark. Pours pure black with a very thin crimson foam and heavy lacing. Taste brings dark chocolate, cacao, tree bark, coffee oils, roasted coffee, roasted dark malts, wort malt, chocolate syrup, dark wort malt and a slight nuttiness upfront. Mid palate brings very pronounced whiskey, barrel wood, oak, spiced whiskey, rye whiskey, charred malts, corn syrup and a hint of vanilla. Finishes dry with residual chocolate syrup, wort syrup, alcohol sugars and whiskey notes. Overall, this is a very whiskey forward beer with excellent balance, Very nice.
