COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is it! The powerful, full-bodied, strong beer which is Andechs’s trademark. Brewed in the traditional Triple Mash procedure and available throughout the year, not just during the "Starkbierzeit"!

When the evening passes into dusk and the day draws to a close, time goes a little slower. Just the right time for a glass of Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel. Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel – mouthcoating, velvety, strong This world famous bock from Bavaria’s Holy Mountain is not meant to be rushed, but savoured slowly. As solid as a rock, Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel presides over the evening meal with a colour reminiscent of dark copper with nuances of fiery red. Its clear gleaming look harmonises with its firm, fine pored head. Also the aroma delights the connoisseur: soft roasted accents and a nuance of dried fruit carrying a vein of caramel. This Doppelbock Dunkel from Bavaria’s Holy Mountain presents a pleasant effervescence. And then there’s the unmistakable flavour: mouthcoating and velvety, strong and yet pleasantly malty – a powerful, robust body. At the same time, it develops an easily recognisable sweetness, embraced in roasted cocoa and a light, bitter hoppiness. Concluding with a powerful punch, this Doppelbock departs with a lingering aftertaste of quality plain chocolate. A strong Doppelbock that embodies the centuries old Benedictine brewing tradition, sip by delicious sip (original extract: 18.5%, abv: over 7.1%).

Pours clear mahogany with a thick and fairly persistent buff head. Aroma yields caramel, roast malt and fruity tones, pomme with a bit of dark fruit. Flavor delivers roast malt, caramel, woody hops, and a fruity underpinning of apple and dark fruit - and just a whisper of semi-sweet chocolate. Mouthfeel presents firm, smooth body and jazzy fizz. Doppel your dunkel, doppel your fun!

Nice balance. Quite strong malt, but still smooth, cherry-sweetness, just right. Red shines through the dark colour of this beer. This was the perfect companion for a winterly meal with stewed beef and red cabbage. I will get more of this one.

Sehr guter Doppelbock.

50cl bottle at home, bought at Hopt.nl. Appearance: clear chestnut with fairly big, off-white head. Aroma: dried fruits, caramel, some cinnamon, sweet spice - almost oatmeal like, something that reminds me of dogfood, but not unpleasant. Taste: high sweetness and medium bitterness. Notes of sweet malts, sweet spices, plums, dried fruits, some grains/barley. Palate: medium body, watery to oily texture and medium carbonation.

kraddel (9424) - Antwerp, BELGIUM - JAN 16, 2018
Pours very dark brown, with a red glow. Small white head. Smell is very unintense, mild caramelyness. Taste is full, toasty ( very toasty ) caramel, some chocolate, very mild bitterness. Rich maltyness. Very complex, even some coffee. Medium to medium thick body, medium low to low carbo. Very enjoyable. Easy drinker, regardless of the ABV. If only the scent was somewhat more intense...

Half liter bottle poured dark copper into a half liter dimpled mug. Lasting beige head with lively carbonation. Aroma of sweet malt and dried fruit. Medium body that is a little dry. Perfect amount of hop bitterness to offset the additional malt bill. One of the best doppelbock's in the world.
