COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Formerly known as Andechser Weissbier Hefetrüb.

When summer is on the way and the days invite you to swim, ramble, climb, or simply enjoy the outdoors, you will discover that an Andechser Weissbier Hell is just the right thing to quench your thirst. Since Saint Joseph’s Day on 19 March 1993, Andechs Weissbier Hell has found many new friends. Untreated and bottled in its natural state of yeasty turbidity, this is a top fermented beer for the epicure. Its light honey colour makes it an immediate eyecatcher. Then there’s the opalescence and fine structure of the yeast turbidity. At the same time, the creamy, fine pored head invites you to get to know this light Weissbier from the Holy Mountain. You’ll need two takes to enjoy the aromas to the full. First, distinctive fruity aromas like banana and honeydew melon come to the fore, followed by fine cloves. Andechser Weissbier Hell is a very tangy, refreshing treat with the conviction of a full, soft body. It concludes on a finely balanced interplay of light sweet honey and a delicate acidity with undertones of bitter hoppiness that quickly subside into a harmonious aftertaste. A Weissbier that embodies a slice of the Andechs lifestyle: finely yeasty, tangy, and sparkling, it refreshes and renews the thirst for more (original extract: 12.5%; abv: 5.5%).

Rated on 10-17-2016. (Bottle) When poured. the appearance is a huge fizzy tan head that mostly diminished, light hazy yellow body, fizzy carbonation, and spotty lacing. The aroma presents wheat, banana, fruity, spicy, clove, sweet, and malt. The flavor presents banana, wheat, banana, spicy, clove, malt and sweet. The mouthfeel is moderate carbonation, watery and thin. This beer is light bodied. The end result is this beer is very light tasting and thin. It is an okay beer, but nothing special stood out for this beer.

500 ml bottle from Pearl Street Beverage, Burlington VT, served probably a little too cold in a Weihenstephan weizen glass. Typically large foamy head near-fills the glass, but doesn’t hold as strongly as many, and as it disappears the bright hazed gold peeks forth with alacrity...banana-bubblegum-clove, you know the drill, also a bit of pepper and a touch of lime, not all the potent or forward...the body is fairly juicy but also not as soft or creamy as I would usually hope for, it’s a bit over-carbonated and watery, though the yeast presence comes on nicely with a few sips and a bit more warmth...drier and more citric than most, and, ultimately, rather bland unfortunately. A disappointment; from my experience with the Doppelbock Dunkel and now this, and after reading more than a couple of reviews indicating that this brewery’s best days might be behind it, I have to say I sure wish I’d been able to get to Germany a decade or more ago. Sigh.
