With its deep, dark brown-black color, thick, full-bodied, velvety-smooth mouth feel, mocha character, and, strong yet subtle hop bite, Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout is one of the thickest, richest, and most complex stouts on the market today.

Smooth aroma of toasted malt and chocolate. Solid brown color with a milk chocolate head that laces a bit. Starts with a sweet toasted malt that moves to chocolate. Starts with a firm mouthfeel, but thins a bit. Coffee comes forth. The finish is toasted malt with a hint of bitter. Very smooth, very pleasant, very drinkable.

Pours a pitch black color with a thin light brown head. Good aroma and flavor of chocolate, oatmeal and roasted malt with a mild bitter finish. The body is light to medium with a creamy texture and gentle carbonation. Good stuff.

Repectable outmeal stout. Creamy but no excessive, clashing lactic taste like lesser stouts. No vinous aspect. Chocolate and coffee notes are slightly burnt and somewhat subdued.

poured from a bottle with a minimal light brown head with just a small amount of lacing clinging to the side of the glass. Looks a bit like a coke. Roasted malt aroma. Smells good. Sweet with slight coffee flavor and, like the bottle said a lingering bitterness (which I like). Nice beer. Anderson Valley BC does a lot of things right.

12 oz btl thanks to shigadeyo. An aroma of chocolate and weak coffee. A thiin brown pour with little head and a light lacing. A flavor of slightly souir coffee. Like coffee that has been burnt in the pot. A light bitter that was a bit weaker than I expected. A thin palate and odd carbonation make this beer a bit weak all round. A beer that is a tick away from being very good.

Thanks to decaturstevo for sharing this bottle with us at the Nashville Tasting! Poured a black color with a tan head that left light lacing. The aroma was somewhat woody with some smoked malts. The flavor found an even mix of hops and malts with a hint of sweet fruits. Light and slightly watery for a stout. Sweet aftertaste.

22 oz. bottle. Pours an opaque black with a thick, rich brown head that lasted through the entire glass. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee was pleasant but a bit light for such a rich looking beer. Flavor of roasted malt, coffee and a touch of sweetness, was also a bit light I thought for a dark beer. Somewhat light bodied. If I had to use a word to describe this beer, it would be mellow.

12oz. Bottle: Sweet aroma of chocolate and roasted malts, and cream. Poured dark black with a big, rocky, but thin brown head that somewhat lasted. Good lacing is thin like the head. Opaque, even against a bright light. Flavor starts lightly sweet but finishes lightly bitter. Tastes of milk chocolate, roasted malts, cream, and oats. Finish is dry and long. Finish tastes of oats. Light to medium body. Thin. Soft carbonation. Overall I really liked the flavor of this beer, though it would benefit from more body.

Pours a black color with a darker brown color head. Aroma is of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, caramel, and a hint of some hops. Flavor starts off with molasses and continues to the roasted malts and coffee and finishes with a slightly bitter and chocolate flavor. A very good stout.
