Inviting appearance — dark body, thick tan head. Big malt aroma — roast, chocolate, syrup. Flavor tips toward the sweet side — chocolate with notes of caramel and toast. Medium to heavy body, but certainly not syrupy. Very easy sipping. Slight bitter aftertaste to balance the sweet malts. threethreads (5) - topsfield, Massachusetts, USA - SEP 25, 2005 does not count
bottle.quick head but nice while it lasts.dark and almost creamy.nice bitterness.what do get get when you cross a stout and an IPA? pineypower (3346) - Ocean County, New Jersey, USA - SEP 22, 2005
Pours out a nice dark brown color with a large fading head. The aroma is sweet and roasty. Taste is very nice with a decent balance and a sweet and somewhat hoppy finish Aurelius (5572) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - SEP 20, 2005
Dry, musty, creosote stout aroma. Cool cap, cool label - very west-coast micro. A hearty but balanced flavor - moderate sweetness, hazelnut, roast, chocolate in a very drinkable blend. Lingering coffee bitterness with creamy cocoa. Moderately viscous mouthfeel. Quite good - certainly deserving of its high ranking. Picked this one up in Phoenix. phiconners (152) - Massachusetts, USA - SEP 15, 2005
Pours dark, short lived head. Strong flavor, not as sweet as some others in this category, but very flavorful. A solid beer, but not as good as I would have hoped for the 9.99 I paid for a six pack.

Very roasty and chocolate/coffee. Tasted strong for a oatmeal stout, so the 5.7% is not surprising. A very hearty drink. Full-bodied and impressive. HogTownHarry (7065) - Toronto (Harbourfront), CANADA - SEP 3, 2005
Bottle (12oz). Poured lively dark brown-black with a big foamy-creamy-rocky light brown head. Lots of dark roast/burned malt, bitter chocolate, resin, coffee, celery (yes! - thanks, jerc), moss and chestnuts. Taste starts creamy-chocolate, then an odd camphor note creeps in, then the hops and the bitter chocolate coffee distracts you, then the chocolate seems a bit sweet, then salt, then some sour cherry and grape seed - this has a lot happenin’! Mouthfeel is medium to medium-light bodied, bitter and a bit creamy-sticky. Very nice - overall a touch sweeter than ideal, but recommended - very drinkable, not at all heavy. fordest (2469) - Santee/San Diego, California, USA - AUG 28, 2005
12 oz bottle. Poured the darkest of dark with a decent head. But the head didn’t last long. Aromas were sweet and roasty. Flavors were some coffee, other roasted malts, and a nice bitter hops finish. Pretty tasty, OhioDad (2492) - Hilliard, Ohio, USA - AUG 11, 2005
12 oz bottle - Pours black with a creamy tan head that lingers at about an 8th of an inch and laces well. Aromas of chocolate, caramel, roasted nuts. Flavor of sweet chocolate, oatmeal, caramel all finished with some bitter hops. Very sweet and quite decadant. Palate is just right. Mouthcoating and creamy yet very drinkable. This is a very underrated stout. I really enjoyed this. A very nice oatmeal stout. stegosaurus (1882) - Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 11, 2005
UPDATED: MAR 15, 2007 pours dark with a small tan head, aroma of chocolate, coffee, roasted and sweet malts. flavor, coffee-like, chocolate, roast, with some bitter hops in the finish, not a bad brew.
