COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Similar to Belgian-style Strong Pales, the Tripel is often characterized by its lighter color, spicy aromatics, and complexity. Brother David’s Triple is brewed with copious amounts of pale malts as well as Belgian candi sugar, giving it a deep golden hue, medium body and rich mouth feel. The dense head gives off aromas of candied orange peel, clover honey, pears, and a hint of freshly mown fields. The fruity esters and spicy hop flavors balance the phenolic characteristics leading to a peppery, citrusy finish.

MALTS:
Pale Two-Row, Pilsner, Munich (20L)

HOPS:
Columbus, Sterling

Draft- Pours a light amber with a nice white head with beautiful lacing. Flavors of bananas and spice. A little thick on the palate but goes down smooth. This brew isn’t horrible, but isn’t memorable.

(Draft: O'Brien's in San Diego, CA) Spicy, fairly bitter, lots of banana, but no real maltiness; Sweet flavor but not cloying or syrupy; The flavor is okay initially, but is unpleasantly bitter and out of balance by the finish; Just has a thin flavor all in all; Spicy banana aroma; Golden in color; White head fades to a sheen fairly quickly

UPDATED: OCT 25, 2005 Rating #2 Bottle (6 3 7 3 15). A golden orange color with a cream colored head. A spiced, pepper, mild light fruit aroma with hints of the sugar candy flavors. Sweet and sugary with some banana, clove, and yeasty belgian flavors. Warming and dry the beer finishes smoothly. Rating #1 Tap @ Toronado (7 3 7 3 16). Without my beer list in hand I couldn’t remember if I had had the Brother David’s Tripel. As any good ratebeerian should do, I ordered a glass just to make sure. Golden color with an off-white head. Nicely balanced with light spices, belgian candy, and yeast. Somewhat dry on the palate.

This tripel pours with an orange amber body with a full head and a good amount of lacing. The aroma is sweet and yeasty with nice banana notes and a touch of spice. The flavor is slightly sweet yet slightly bitter and spicy with nice banana notes and some yeasty notes. Medium bodied, oily smooth yet slightly dry.

GABF '02 There's nothing more refreshing in my mind on a hot summer afternoon than a nicely made tripel, because really, who wants to drink pilsner? Golden straw in color, slighlty hazy with some fruit and spice character coming through. Nice foamy head with medium body, yeast flavors folow this beer from start to finish.

On tap at Toronado: Beautiful gold color, a mite sticky and this prevents the aromas from escaping the the top despite the adequate effervescence. Still delicious in its own right. It just seems a bit thick.
