"now this one’s smooth, fuller bodied than AV gives itself credit for. one of the better early american porters i’ve tried. does everything right BBB63 (6567) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - FEB 28, 2004
Deep earthy dark brwon with an initial HUGE rocky and creamy head with very good lace. Too huge, overcarbonated. The aroma hints of caramel and burnt malts, bittersweet chocolate, used coffee grounds, berry, light piney and floral hops, and dusty yeast esters. The taste starts twangy and bittersweet. The mocha and malt nature is present with a mild hop undertone. The finish displays the standard smoky and coffee characteristics found in many porters. This medium to full-bodied beer has a lively and rich mouthfeel, chalky after a while. Not too shabby indeed, this porter is quite drinkable AFTER the head settles down. beerinmarch (2830) - Washington, USA - AUG 22, 2004
A nice black porter with a tall tan head. Great roasty malt aroma with nut and chocolate hints. A very smooth and well balanced porter with lots of roastiness in the malt and some chocolate tastes that stuck around in the aftertaste. thornecb (6090) - Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA - JUN 29, 2009
Pours mahogany-tinged black into an English pint. Tan micro head with excellent retention slowly recedes to coat surface. Dusty fig and cocoa aromas. Smooth caramel upfront, turning a little thin with roasted chocolate in the lasting finish. Drake (14078) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 2, 2010
22 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a large frothy dark brown head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of dark roasted malts, chocolate, hops, coffee and a faint smoky note. Taste is bitter hops, chocolate, roasted malts, bitter coffee in the finish. Smooth, creamy, medium bodied. Tasty beer.

Anderson Valley Brewing Company--Deep Enders Dark Porter--1997 22 oz. Bottle. 6.00% ABV. (4.0 / 5.0) Porter--Clear deep black cherry red color. Rich roasted astringent cherry front and body develops hints of chocolate but roast dominates. Thin mouthfeel. Develops hop spiciness at end and finishes dry. Sampled 4/12/1999. radagast83 (8515) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - APR 23, 2010
22oz bottle. Aroma is a bold, rich one of chocolates, a touch of coffee. Flavor is creamy, rich. Smooth mouthfeel. Appreciate the lower alcohol content. Pretty fantastic! Slipstream (2709) - USA - JUN 13, 2010
Black pour. Funky but fine yeasty coffee aroma. Roasty flavor with coffee and grassy hop notes that develop nicely on the palate. A touch of Coca-Cola in there too. A very good porter. 502Che (999) - @, CAMBODIA - SEP 13, 2010
Bottle. Pours a dark brown, almost black, with a tall creamy attractive and lacing khaki head. Deliciously inviting aroma thats very solid and on style. Notes of vanilla, licorice, chocolate, roasted malt, and coffee. The flavor is very nice as well. It is similar to the aroma with a bit of a dark fruit quality to it. Medium dry roasty finish. Medium bodied with low carbonation. Overall: this beer is just spot on. So balanced, so perfectly to style. Its simple and yet still complex. Just an outstanding example of a porter. This will be joining SN Porter as my go to, simple perfect porter. reebtogi (6403) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - OCT 6, 2011
355mL bottle poured dark brown with red highlights in the light and a creamy thick beige head with nice retention and lacing. Aromas of roasted malt and chocolate and a hint of coffee. Taste is roasted malty sweetness and chocolate balanced with some coffee and hop bitterness in the finish. This is an enjoyable tasting experience.
