Each year, when people are starting to unpack their winter clothes and replenish their firewood, our tiny brewery in the coastal redwoods of Northern California makes seasonal preparations of a different kind. As the cold arrives, we release a unique beverage created to add warmth to even the coldest and darkest of winter’s days. Winter Solstice Seasonal Ale begins with a very high original gravity to create a hearty and spicy brew with a deep amber hue and a smooth finish. Anderson Valley Brewing Company wishes you the very best for the holiday season and the New Year.

Pours a dark amber color with a medium white head that faded kinda quick but leaves preat good lacing. Smells of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, brown sugar, and caramel. Tastes of all the same things in the smell. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy with good carbonation. This is a really good tasting winter seasonal. Great combo of spices. Would go great with a desert.

Bottle. Pours ruddy amber with light beige head and substantial lacing. Nose of bread crust, caramel, allspice, and cinnamon. Bready malt with spices (allspice and clove) upfront followed by caramel and some subtle cinnamon and licorice in the finish. Lighter body than expected.

Wow. It what I expected. DAMN fine beer. Gorgeous color and head almost no aroma though. Amazing maltiness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Amber colored pour, with a tan head. Aroma is caramel, some spice with hints of vanilla, toffee. Taste is caramel, some dark fruits with notes of toffee. Some what Candy like, raisin and some spices. Not bad.

UPDATED: DEC 6, 2017 Pours a rich brown from a tap, off white head with some lacing. Aroma is a general sweet caramel malt with a light nondescript spice. On the mouth there are notes of milk chocolate up front and on the finish. In the middle, cinnamon? Maybe nutmeg? Different, definitely sweet, overly so for my taste. Okay beer.

Nice dark amber pour, finger of khaki foam. Nide is cherries and caramel. Middle is more of the same, with some Northern Brewer bitterness. Finish is a little sweet and warm.

From Mar 2007

Pours from 12oz bottle a clear amber with a smallish head of foam
that shrinks quickly and leaves completely for I finish my session.

The smell is a nice mix of sweet malt and some spices.

The taste has a strong caramel malt, roasted malt and bread flavour to it and it's quite thick in body. Dang, this is a great tasting Winter Warmer. After the first sip, I thought the sweetness was starting to be a bit much but then there's an underlying presence of hop bitterness that tames the sweetness nicely. A few more sips in and I'm getting some spice, maybe cinnamon and nutmeg? Very good stuff! Oh, and there's a tad bit of warming as it goes down...

Bottom line: A very good example of the style indeed. I see it as a must try.

Thanks to Wasatch for this sample!

Very different. Strong spice notes but I have no idea what spices they used. Interesting and drinkable. I liked it very much. I need to get more ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
