3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Amber a tad misty dried fruit characteristics nice and carbonated, pretty strong
"aroma is of fruits and heavy malt, with a little yeasty zing for good measure, and alcohol. a touch too much alcohol for only 8%, but manages to be light and fruity and heavy at the same time. That goes for the flavor too. I’d have rated the flavor higher if it wasn’t quite so sweet and the alcohol was not as evident. It is a pretty smooth beer, though, and of juuuuuuust high enough quality and complexity for me to be curious about Angel City’s other beers. 8 months later...not so curious. oh well." Bomber from a small liqour store in La Jolla. Nose is lightly funky with some slight yeast and sugary aromas. Cloudy amber with a medium beige head. Flavor is funky and tart with some brown sugar. No date markings but glass had 04 08 at the bottom. bikesandbeers (547) - san diego, California, USA - MAY 20, 2010
On tap at The Lab (usc). poured a like light ice tea, very cold with no head. aroma of sweet malt and sugar. flavor was sweet without much complexity. As the beer warmed i hoped to get more but all it got was a little bit more sticky. The 8% did the trick, but I wouldn’t drink this again. Bottle from Bevmo: Created a thick fluffy topping of head and liquid is a medium brown color that both glows and shows sign of heavy sediment floating around. In the nose, there is a stale Belgian abbey ale smell as if this had made the long trip from Belgium and has been sitting a long life on the shelf, so it’s not that appetizing. The flavor has gone extremely tart and flat with no real worthy flavors found other than it is tart and makes me cringe when I take a sip. This is another beer company who doesn’t care about customers drinking spending their money on an old expired bottle, shame on them. BMan1113VR (7931) - Los Angeles, California, USA - AUG 17, 2009
UPDATED: JAN 11, 2011 Cheap Bomber. Pours with a skimp off-white head over a hazed deepish orange body that is way to light for the style. Fading head, no lace. Aroma of straw, husk, grain, honey, light banana ester, metal and leather. Taste is vegital, metallic, possibly a bit cloying and spicy. A bit of oxidation. Some candi and clove, with rotting fruit. I have heard this brewer is a very talented homebrewer, but this is not good stuff in this bottle. Maybe it was poorly kept. Thin and dry.
