Draft - Typical US porter but well crafted and nice tasting. Nothing wrong with that!
Mocha coffee aroma, dark brown color. Taste is a dry sweetness; dark chocolate malts, cream, coffee grounds, and hops. The hops sit light in the nose during drinking, but in the aftertaste they mingle nicely with the dark malt. Wet mouthfel, but perhaps a tad too thin. Love the name. Dark rosen brown in color yet still translucent. Aroma is root beer. Is this a joke? Some faint smells of cocoa butter and again with Angelic’s spray starch signature aroma. They must have purchased some tubing second hand from a laundromat. Decent sweet cream taste. Dry, dark chocolate. Could be a case of naming an oatmeal stout a porter. We’ve got oats, trickles of molasses and sweet chocolate malts. As a sweet stout, it’s tasty. As a porter, I need more f’ing hops. robertsreality (2460) - Minnesota, USA - OCT 14, 2004
Dark Brown Coloring. Small Tan Head. Roasts..Chocolate. Bitter. Didn’t Taste the Hops in the Description. Good Standard Porter. badgerben (5171) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - OCT 14, 2004
Brownish or black color with a thin head. Bitter chocolate aroma and taste with a bit of roasted goodness. JoeM500 (1908) - Crown Point, Indiana, USA - SEP 7, 2004
Festival tap: Looks like this beer is hit or miss, depending on what batch you get! Mine was very coffee dominated and dry at the finish, creamy and chocolatey in the middle, mostly espresso flavors. Very good! MIBRomeo (2570) - Wisconsin, USA - MAY 15, 2004
UPDATED: AUG 15, 2005 this beer smelld good w/a hint of chocolate.. tasted amazing a true mocha flavor smooth and delicious..
Had to tone this rating down now that I’ve had many more beers to compare it with. tomxcs (321) - California, USA - DEC 2, 2003
Looks great, tastes alright. Light on the usual porter flavors. Angelic is a nice place, but I personally recommend the Great Dane (if you happen to be in Madison). GermanBrews76 (680) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - OCT 26, 2003
Dark body, ruby tinted. light brown head. chocolatey and somewhat roastey. A light body. roastey, chocolate finish. a standard brewpub porter, certainly nothing special. cb (810) - Roeland Park, Kansas, USA - MAR 7, 2003
Most of my favorable impression of this beer is from the appearance. Very nice and very deceiving --- looks like it would taste wonderful. No coffee flavor, no chocolate flavor, minimal hoppiness to speak of...just a bare nuttiness. If you like a regular brown ale, this is ok. But if you want a porter, look elsewhere.
