Bottle. Pours black with an inch of khaki foam. Has some artificial chocolate on the nose. Kind of sweet on the tongue. Finishes clean. Eh! heemer77 (5357) - Urbandale, Iowa, USA - APR 5, 2013
Nearly black when poured from the bomber. The slightly yellowish head is thin. Sweet milk chocolate and peanuts are nice in the roasted nose. This is decently roasted coffee with some cocoa notes. The finish is yeasty with some green wood. The ashy finish is off putting. wlajwl (6803) - Quad Cities, Iowa, USA - MAR 23, 2013
Aroma is light chocolate/caramel and a mild malt character. The flavor is mild chocolate, mild nuttiness, too thin in everything but passable in the end. igneous1 (1535) - Davenport, Iowa, USA - JAN 26, 2013
cola colored, thin beige head, slight lacing. aroma initially is a weird industrial plastic, followed by hints of cocoa. flavor is quite tart at first then finishes with some bitter chocolate notes. odd and not my cup of tea. Ceebs25 (503) - Naperville, Illinois, USA - OCT 19, 2012
Big bottle from John’s in IC. This was tasty, maybe a bit too thin, but well balanced and nicely sweet. I might have preferred it to be a bit fuller/richer, but it worked well as is. Poured with a minimal beige cream head, no lacing, and cocoa-brown thin body. The nose is airy, sweet with prominent cocoa, and malted candy, light roasted cereal grains, and earth. Body is lighter than it should, with a powder cream and actually more bitter than I would expect. Flavor notes of bittersweet cocoa, cereal grains, earth, and a light cherry fruit covered in chocolate. Finishes cocoa sweet with light herb. Really not bad at all, but would really like a bolder, bigger product.

Bottle - thanks Kev! Very dark pour with a huge carbonated head. Mild roast and fairly rich cocoa. Good stuff. Trev (2023) - Lakeville, Minnesota, USA - JUL 20, 2012
Black with thick creamy tan head.
Chocolate, maple syrup, nutty aroma.
Nutty, light chocolate. Not as sweet as expected.

Ok, I’ve got to sneak one more non-pale-lager in before I do this "pale lager month" thing.
The beer pours an opaque black color with a medium, tight, tan head that leaves some lace. The aroma is big on chocolate and roasty coffee tones, some earthiness and oakiness are in there as well, this smells really appealing. The flavor is really pretty dry with a good deal of roasty and dark chocolate bitterness. There is a burnt (borderline ashy) flavor that I don’t always like in my porters, but it works about as well here as I could imagine. I’m a little bit put off by a salty green olive flavor that lingers in the background, but that & the thin mouth feel are the only things I particularly don’t like about the beer.
This makes two perfectly enjoyable, infection free, clean tasting beers from this brewery.... Not bad for my neck of the woods.
