Bottle: Poured a pitch-black tar and tan head. Huge roast and coffee aroma. Taste is thick coffee and roast. gregwilsonstl (2734) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - MAY 6, 2017
Super dark motor oil black. Sweet. Syrupy sweet. Almost tastes under-fermented, yet its 10%. Sticky. Subtle mild coffee. Expected more coffee. Thx Markwise! Stoned99 (1716) - St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 26, 2017
750ml bottle from trade with Luis. Aroma: intense licorice, molasses, light candied fruits, light tobacco and spices. . App: pitch black with small frothy brown head leaving good lacing. Taste and palate: full body, medium high sweetness, light bitter and ashes finish. Overall: probably the kind of beer to pair with food so it feels less rich. It’s good but I can’t myself drinking a whole bottle. Well I know it was meant to share but my point is this sugar can be overwhelming after a few sips. My lips stick to each other after every sip. Can’t wait to see how the Peanut Butter and Marshmallows will taste like. Dogbrick (14389) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - FEB 14, 2017
Sample at Aficionado’s during the "Big Bad Bottle Share" on 02/10/2017. Black pour with a medium tan head that recedes gradually to a film. Patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, dark chocolate and coffee. Full-bodied with flavors of burnt malt, anise, coffee and chocolate. The finish is roasty with a malty aftertaste. Pretty good all around. Bottle. It poured a black color with a tan head. The aroma was of fruit, caramel, roast and chocolate. The taste was similar to the aroma with more fruit, caramel, roast, chocolate and booze. It had a medium to full body with a nice dry finish. Good stuff. djd07 (16452) - Houston, Texas, USA - DEC 12, 2016
Growler at RBWG Grand Tasting. Pours black with small tan head that lasts. The aroma is strong roast and dark chocolate. Thick body, chewy, dark chocolate, roast coffee, boozy finish, very good. koleminer20 (4261) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - OCT 27, 2016
From notes. Enjoyed with ebone1988, Chris, Doug, and Jesse at the Lions’ share on October 23. 750 mL bottle. The pour is a little thinner than the Mexi Cakes (shocker) with a lighter black hue and a thin tan head that falls down slowly. The aroma is really roasty and bitter up front. Damn. There is a light chocolate, a little vanilla to it, some bitter licorice, and a heavy roast on the finish. The flavor is very similar. Dominating roast, light chocolate and licorice, hint of vanilla, it just needs a little time I think to mellow out. The mouth feel is a little thinner and light with a decent carbonation and a lingeringly bitter roast on the finish. This is way too roasty for me, but with time I think it’ll get better. ebone1988 (2290) - Dearborn, Michigan, USA - OCT 23, 2016
Bottle shared with koleminer20, Chris and Doug for the Lions share. Aroma is robust, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, roasted malt, good. Appearance is black, brown head, poured thinnish. Taste is robust, dark fruit, chocolate, roasted malt, eh. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy body, light carbonation, dark fruit and roasted malt aftertaste. Overall, eh. Not great.
