330ml bottle (Ales by Mail)
Lovely rich smoky aroma, plenty of toasted bready malts, gently sweet. Rich brown, persistent tan head. Full palate, pleasantly smooth, filling carbonation. Rich smoky malts, toasted wholemeal bread and crusts. Some slightly woolly bitterness. Finish is a little earthy, which comes over as a bit harsh in the presence of the smokiness. Very solid brown ale.

9/VII/16 - 33cl bottle @ home, Katie & Kevin tasting - BB: 18/II/16 (2016-748) Thanks to Katie & Kevin for sharing the bottle!

Clear deep brown beer, creamy beige head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: soft smoke, fruity hops, some dried fruits, some banana. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very hoppy, little sourish, slightly smoky, some banana. Aftertaste: very bitter, sweet malts, caramel, some banana, nice smoky finish. Could have a bit more smoke for me though...

Gravity cask at the 2016 Cambridge Beer Festival. Reddish brown, clear and flat with little visible carbonation. The smoke is muted in the aroma, but theres also some forest floor, leather and beef tea notes. Sweet taste turning to intensely bitter, almost acrid, for the long finish. Horehound and overripe mango in the aftertaste. Bodys pretty thin and flat. Good but not great.
