COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Wheat Wine Ale Aged in Bourbon Barrels - Randy "Pappy" Burleson. Lover of craft beer and good music, and supporter of Anthem when it was still just an idea in my head. It was on a trip with him to the west coast many years ago, long before aging beers in barrels became common, that he introduced me to the first bourbon barrel aged beer I’d ever had. A transformative moment, where an entirely new world of possibilities of what beer could be opened up to me. It was a day I’ll never forget, one that shaped my vision for Anthem. I will always be thankful for that day, and for his friendship and support. With that in mind, it was only fitting to create this beer in tribute and gratitude. So let’s raise a glass and say cheers to you, Pappy Burleson. You’re one awesome dude. - Matt Anthony, founder & brewmaster

kathouse (1940) - LAS VEGAS, Nevada, USA - JUL 30, 2017
At 17%, there’s no way to hide the booze. Despite its cloudy color, oak, brown sugar and raisin aroma, and wheat wine finish, this is a big beer. Enjoy responsibly.

Really liked this. Aromas and flavors of wheat, bourbon, oak caramel and a slight hop bite. Great color and good feel.

Tap at Anthem Brewing Company, Oklahoma. Colour is cloudy dark brown with small white head. Aromas and flavors: Some bourbon, dryness, dry fruits, raisins, some hops and malts. Strong malts and pretty heavy.

Draft at the source. Hazy to cloudy maroon color. Aroma of boozy plum. Taste is boozy dark fruit. Nice. But boozy.

18 months cellaring have done this one wonderfully, probably my favorite beer Anthem had ever made.

Bottle. Pours a very dark, cloudy copper color with a thin, laced head. Strong, Pappy aroma with a nice wheat finish. Strong, strong flavor. Nice, wheat ale taste with some banana notes. But...you also get the amazing Pappy presence. Pretty spectacular beer. The thought of Pappy and a wheat ale together does not sound like a good idea. But this is fantastic.

Bricktop86 (912) - Moore, Oklahoma, USA - JUL 17, 2016
On tap clear brown with hints of red and a small white head. Aroma of dark fruits, dark grains and bourbon. Taste is heavy sweet and medium bitter.

3-way split of a 750ml bottle into sniffer. Ruby-brown, totally opaque, great off-white head. Nose is sweet up front, toast, grain, alcohol, bitter orange, bourbon. Palate is full, smooth, almost creamy. Aggressive mouthfeel. Taste has strong bourbon notes, sour cherry, oak, malts, nice boozy burn, but I would not guess it’s 18%. Strong cherry. Really good.

On draught into a snifter. Pours a light brown with amber tones. Nose is bourbon, caramel, and malt. Taste is like a wee heavy with a nice bourbon flavor. Caramel up front and then the bourbon finishes it off nicely. At ouch of alcohol on the finish, but you’d never guess it was 17%. very good.

Holy crap this is smooth and approachable for 17%. It's dangerously crushable and might be top pick for wheat wines for my taste buds.
