Draft into a plastic cup @ Apocalypse. Hard to see the appearance through the plastic cup, black? creamy light tan head. Aroma of roasted coffee and chocolate mostly with some caramel. Flavor is rich chocolate, bitter roasted black malt and some light malt sweetness. Medium to full body with average carbonation. Solid stout, full flavored and goes down easy. Sitting in the sample room before getting ready to call it a night I opted for this moderate gravity stout. While it was nothing exceptional it is a good sign that a young brewery is able to create solid flavorful experiences like this one.
Aroma / Appearance - Fluid inky black beer poured eagerly into the cup. The result is a deep cola colored base that sits heavily on the counter. Coffee, ash, and smoke give it the feel of a bowling alley early in the morning before it is cleaned.
Flavor / Palate - Coffee, plum, and smoke hit the palate in waves. Soft and gentle it does not try to impose its will but gives you time to discover the textures for yourself. The malty finish is a pleasant reminder of previously sips. Perhaps one of the better stouts in the area this sort of things could put a local / regional brewery on the map.
on draft. pours dark brown with mnimal head. the aroma if of coffee and light hints of chocolate. the flavor is coffee and some nuttiness and again bits of chocolate. mild to medium body. very evenly flavored stout and i rather liked it...not an imperial by any standards just a good stout.. even my brewing buddy is not a coffee fan by any standards liked this beer. so that tells me alot. queenholly (3623) - South Whitley, Indiana, USA - MAY 26, 2012
