3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: FEB 16, 2015 From WLVL. First true Roggenbier so I have nothing to compare it against. However it was tasty enough to want to try more. Opaque reddish brown. Some of the aroma and flavor of a hefeweizen but much less banana. Rye flavor and aroma. Not very carbonated. Slippery mouth feel. Serving: bottle
Half litre bottle, poured into pint shaker. A: A very dark amber, opaque cloudy look to it. Medium sized slightly tanned head with decent retention. S: Banana, cherries and some phenols. T: Banana, cherries, barley and rye, tart finish . M: Soupy thick texture, lots of bubbles but didn’t seem overly carbonated. O: Bit of a strange one, slight hint of rye but didn’t over do it. chinchill (4993) - South Carolina, USA - JAN 23, 2017
Poured somewhat clear but lots of sediment left in the bottom of the bottle.
Decent beige head with some lacing.
Very mild aroma.
Near even bitter-sweet balance. Quite malty and wheaty. Similar to an English dark mild but with wheat. N3lson1 (1005) - Long Valley, New Jersey, USA - MAR 26, 2016

Medium light body
Very spicy Weizen bier.
A malty smell, light sweet, spicy, a weak alcoholic aroma. The head is pale beige and lively, very fast disappearing. A light malty taste, light bitter and metallic. The body is light, very dry with a lively carbonation.

Bottle:Deep amber coloured, cloudy, stable off-white foamy layer with microscopic lace; sweetish-sourish bready (sic!) nose with unexpected hints of chocolate; light to medium bodied, relatively soft; moderate sweet-sour flavour; citrussy traces in the soft sourish-grainy to bready finish. Not my cup of tea, but surely interesting… strap (915) - Sindelfingen, GERMANY - DEC 13, 2015
brown and cloudy. very inconsistent color with some visible yeasty sediment. very sour, an off flavored beer that varied in taste as i drank it. it wasn’t bad or undrinkable, and occasionally was decent...not a fan of the sourness. won’t do this one again. kto (1309) - SWITZERLAND - DEC 10, 2015
0.5l bottle as ’sudmeister roggen bier’, a part of bavarian beer set, marktkauf/edeka. pours a cloudy brown with a medium off-white head and a little lacing. aroma of smoke, rye bread, cola, cocoa. flavour of cherry juice, caramel, bread. dry and sour. nealblind (1864) - Seattle, Alabama, USA - DEC 6, 2015
Brown yellow pour dense carpet of foam. Aroma old grain honey, musty wood, some cocoa some saison yeast. Tastes dry rye. Some caramel but very little sugar. Ugh. corby112 (2804) - philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 17, 2015
Pours a very cloudy and very dark chestnut brown color that’s comletely opaque with burnt mahogany edges and a one finger, frothy off-white head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Decent retention with sporadic chunks of lace left behind.
Spicy, slightly sweet aroma with a prominent rye resence that’s counters by sweet malt and earthy hops. Spicy and peppery with rye, caramel sweetness, toffee, nut and subtle dark fruit. There’s also some bread and floral, grassy hops in the nose. Decent but not too interesting. Nice rye presence but it doesn’t really open up until the beer warms considerably.
On the fuller end of medium body with a spicy rye presence that’s countered by some sweet malt before a lingering buttery diaceytl presence comes in on the back end. Peppery spice and rye followed by bready yeast, caramel malt, toffee and biscuit but the finish is really buttery, metallic and astringent. Even without this, the rye is kind of tame and the malt profile needs a touch more sweetness. The odd flavors in the finish make it really harsh and unpleasant. Tough to finish.
