COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The IPA was frist brewed in the 19th century by the English. They would add massive amounts of hops to the beer for sailors of the East India Trading Co. to take on long trade voyages around the Cape of Good Hope to British colonies in India. Beloved by the red coats in India, this beer quickly became one of the most popular both at home and abroad. The antimicrobial properties of the hops helped prevent the beer from spoiling and saved many a thirsty sailor too. This IPA is of the American variety, using hops with more citrus and floral aromas to create a clean, smooth bitterness.

Coffee was introduced to India a few centuries earlier by Baba Budan, the namesake of this beer. A merchant and a smuggler, the legend has it that Budan brought the first seeds of the coffee plant from Yemen to India sometime in the 17th century. The collaborative brew between AMB and Fonta Flora brewery in Morganton, NC is named after him. Just as he brought the new flavor of coffee to the markets of India, we are bringing you this new variety of IPA. We took a true West-coast style IPA and infused it with 40 pounds of locally roasted coffee from Expresso News coffee shop in downtown Boone. The result is a delicious mix of roasted and citrus aromas in a beer that will delight drinkers of both.

Cheers to Baba Budan and his unlikely path to bring these two worlds together.

Pours golden with a white head. Citrus aroma with dark roasted coffee. Flavor is citrus up front with a dark, roasted, nutty, coffee underlying flavor. Earthy pine finish.

Tops the coffee IPA list that I've had. The coffee in this one tastes more like brewed coffee then grounds like many other light coffee beers. The hops in this beer also show up which I enjoy. Good beer.

16 ounce can. Light golden in color. Taste and aroma are coffee. Not seriously strong coffee though, and I think that was what I was expecting.

Golden color with white head. Aroma is a lot of coffee and a bit of citrus. Coffee IPAs really mess with your head. Flavor contains some espresso and citrus that work together not against each other. Overall work more on a stout level than IPA. These are weird and great beers.

16 oz. can from seeswo - thanks, Chris! Pours a barely cloudy gold with a finger of barely off-white head that settles into an uneven film and ring. It starts more bitter and finishes with nice coffee roast. Weird juxtaposition but this style is hot and breweries are making it work. More balance in the aroma. The flavor is like two planes at once. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a bitter, roasty mouthfeel. Fun beer.

Refrigerated 16 oz. aluminum can poured into a snifter. Light orange with no head. Aroma is coffee, medium body, lower carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is coffee and herbal hops.

It pours dark gold with a slightly off white head. It is fairly clear overall. It has aromas of coffee, expresso, and citrus. It has flavors of coffee, expresso which dominate the initial flavoring. The secondary flavors feature citrus and a bit of bread. There are hints of floral as well. It has a moderate body with a moderately-high bitter aftertaste. The bitterness is a combination of coffee bitterness and citrus bitterness. Overall, this is a coffee driven IPA that features a complex combination of coffee flavors and IPA citrus flavors.

can, from Bottle Revolution RDU. good aroma, sweet, more coffee than hops, clean brownish orange color, good initial head, faded quickly to a ring, ok lace. sweet bitter flavor. medium body, smooth creamy mouthfeel, bitter sweet finish. That’s nice, I like these coffee IPA’s, rhis one is stronger of the coffee, less on the hops. solid drinking beer
