A lot of thought has gone into this beer - weve been working on the recipe for well over a year! So, it started out as an Imperial Stout. How about a few oats? How about a hell of a lot of oats?! Some smoked malt maybe - just a little. All good so far. A few specialty German grains should round off the mash quite nicely. Then onto the boil. With our very own coffee roaster here in Bristol, it seemed a shame not to use them. We played around with a few samples from Brian Wogan Coffee and finally settled on some freshly roasted Brazilian Santos beans. Awesome coffee! Just needed something a bit chocolaty to finish it off. How about some chocolate? How about some organic raw cacao nibs?! Job done. Just a long slow fermenation and conditioning period and the result is outstanding.

Pours black with a small brown head, some legs. Aroma is all roasted coffee beans and cocoa. Very smooth to the palate, with some roast malts, oat, strong coffee and chocolate. Soft carbonation and good balance between sweet and bitter, taste increases as it warms up. Very nice stout, borderline with imperial.

Cask Half Pint at White Horse Old Ale Festival 2012, Parsons Green, London in Nov 2015 - Black in colour. Small tan head. Very Malty; roasty malts, lots of coffee, espresso, oaty, some chocolate, caramel, smoke notes. Moderately bitter roast coffee malty throughout. Lacking depth and body for an Impy Stout, but it is a very good and tasty Coffee Stout! (2015-11-23)

Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is lots of coffee and hints of chocolate. Flavour is very similar with a nice smooth bitter finish. Enjoyable.

Bottle at home for brunch, 4th December 16. Pours black and thick and rich, tan head. Aroma is quality coffee, dark chocolate. Taste is smooth, coffee bean, dark chocolate, liquorice. Excellent stuff

Bottle @ Lingua tasting, thanks to Mick. Pours near black with lots of tan lacing. A big inviting coffee aroma, plenty of chocolate, an undercurrent of oats. The flavour is roasted coffee over roasted dark malts with a dark bitter chocolate. Has a slight chalky feel but its smoothed out by the oats in the second half. Not too heavy, lingering bitterness. Tasty enjoyable stuff.

A brown so deep its almost black with a creamy tan head. Coffee, roasty, crisp burnt bacon and chipotle aroma. The taste is roasted coffee beans, a touch of pepper heat and some dark bitter chocolate. A roasted beast thats beautifully drinkable.

Bottle. Pours black with a nice big brown head. An awesome aroma dominated by the chocolate and coffee. The taste is equally fantastic - all the usual suspects but with coffee and chocolate dominating. Id hoped for more body but hey - its "only" 7.4%. Carbonation is just right though. Smooth and very drinkable with a bitter chocolate-y finish. Phenomenal.

Keg @The Hanging Bat, Edinburgh. [Ratings Backlog:Jan 2016] Pours black with a beige head which lasted all the way down. Nose is coffee, that is all i could get. taste is coffee, some dark chocolate, lots of coffee but its not as harsh as the nose.

Pours black with a tan head. The aroma is just huge hits of roasted coffee. The flavour is a very bitter coffee, like a coffee that has been burnt. Its nice but Ive had better breakfast stouts.
