(Rating #5081)

Smells like an energy drink mixed with honey and some extra sugar thrown into it. Loved this badboy and at 12% but tasting like a 6% beer this really is quite something. The smell is not consistent with the taste, wonderful

Beersiveknown (5284) - NORTHERN IRELAND - JUL 26, 2013
Bottle at home from trafalgar wines.
Dark brown piney and simcoe orange chocolate. Sweet, full bodied, light carbonation, chocolate, cola, rich pinene, touch of orange pith. Could be fermented out further.

MartinT (9880) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 14, 2013
My Bottom Line:
Tar-like from aroma to finish, this Black Barley Wine manages to express a few polished flavors such as molasses, roasted cereals, black grapes and coniferous hops for a most heavy sipping experience.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam skirts the darkness.
-The flavor profile lacks complexity for such a huge brew.
-The bubbling is soft and the residual sugar level very high.
-Alcohol burns in the finish, alongside the roasted and coniferous hop bitterness.

anders37 (26657) - Malmö, SWEDEN - MAY 23, 2013
Bottle @ Papsø. Pours a dark brown black color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty spicy caramel aroma with hoppy hints. Dry malty spicy licorice and caramel flavor with hoppy hints. Has a dry malty spicy licorice and caramel finish.

jfb (6270) - GERMANY - MAY 21, 2013
(cask) pours black in colour with a creamy light beige head. aroma of blackberries and tar, slightly perfumed, with a hint of liquorice, raisins and alcohol. flavour is brown sugar, dark chocolate, raisins, oranges and toasted malts, slightly oxidized, with a light sweetness and some alcohol in the finish. heavy-bodied with soft carbonation.

McNeillR (2315) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - APR 23, 2013
Flat dark pour with an auburn laced glint, white-ish head. Sack of trail mix nose - sultanas and walnuts. Big sweetness on the initial taste, sticky hop with first class burnt sugar. Dark liquorice maltyness, very smooth and encompassing mouthfeel for a Barleywine - possible the most impressive slant of this beer. Not overly sweet, not overly empowering booze on the finish. The beer runs countless yards to get to this mark and doesn’t stumble on the finish.
Really wish I’d had this off keg at The Bat post MTB.

Bottle, Marksman Tasting, Great Grog, Edinburgh
