Oatmeal and 20 pounds of fresh roasted coffee from the Ugly Mug Cafe contribute to a mildly chalky espresso character balanced by a rich, sweet, creamy maltiness. coffee finish dissolves into chocolate with a slight roasty bitterness. Brewed with 100% fair-trade coffee from the Ugly Mug Caf and Roastery in Ypsilanti, MI. Pairs well with desserts, especially dark chocolate, raspberries, and cheesecake.

(Sampled 7-8-08) 12 oz. bottle poured into shaker- poured pitch black, Cadillac size head that went away real slow and heavily laced. Aroma of hard coffee and malt, low carbonation. HIs the mouth with a heavy and thick body- the malt and hard coffee taste is at times very hard to tell apart from one another, finish has a mild bitterness. Not for the faint of heart- flawed but still drinkable.

Bottle. Chalky, uncomfortable body and a carbonation beyond lively drag this beer down. Dark brown pour with a nice tan head. The aroma is espresso and roasted malts with a hint of chocolate. The flavor was lightly to moderately sweet and moderately coffee bitter. Finishes with a bitterness and sourness. The medium body had a gritty texture. Uber-lively carbonation.

Actually poured this one out!!! It hurt my heart but the beer was that bad. Great name, great bottle, horrible excuse for a beer. Definitely smell the roasted espresso bean but there is an artificial sweetener-like aroma present as well. Flavor of day-old Folgers, Sweet-n-Low, & soured milk. Nasty...Espresso HATE.

UPDATED: MAY 21, 2008 Bottle, thanks to Bu11zeye. Poured a brown with minimal beige head, no retention. Aroma was the best thing about this beer, very coffee/expresso like, but that doesnt compensate for a good beer. Flavor was lemon tartness at the beggining fading into a expresso flavor and then bitter.....Has watery mouthfeel, low carbonation.

12 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a creamy light tan head (after a vigorous pour) that quickly diminishes to a thin collar that leaves some lacing.

The aroma is sweet fudgy chocolate and coffee that are strong enough to hide some off-notes that seem to be hiding.

The flavor is sweet fudgy chocolate and some oatmeal and nuts followed by an acidic stale coffee. The mouthfeel is thin and watery with little carbonation.

Overall, its not very complex and does have some flaws but is still enjoyable.

12oz bottle. Pours deep brown with a small tan head. Rich aroma of sweet chocolate malt and freshly roasted espresso. Flavor begins with very sweet malt, which is then joined by roasted coffee and chocolate. Mouthfeel is thinner than expected. Not bad, but the flavor doesnt live up to the aroma.
