Aroma like stale coffee and syrup, but strangely delicious. A very intriguing smell.
Pours a mostly-opaque black with a medium head of tan micro bubbles. Looks like...coffee+beer.
Tastes like bad coffee (which is a shame, because they’re using Ugly Mug coffee in here which I know is delicious -- if you’re ever in the area, hit up The Ugly Mug in Ypsi for some of the best espresso and other drinks in metro-detroit, roasted on-site) combined with stout. Too bitter, a big hit of...medicine...or something...I just couldn’t enjoy this and I only made it through half a pint while I was having it with dinner at Arbor Brewing Co. Very oily on the palette and leaves a lingering bitter medicinal/chemical taste.
Overall, this one is a real shame and a big let-down based on how it looks and smells. I wanted to like it, but it’s just not very drinkable. Honestly, you’d be much better off pouring a cup of Ugly Mug coffee into a bottle of Guinness extra stout.

12oz bottle from The Beer Depot in Ann Arbor, MI. Pours a black colored body with a thin, frothy, tan head that dissipates quickly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is big, fresher coffee and espresso with a nice chocolate sweetness. A touch of cream and vanilla. Flavor is big coffee and an odd sourness. A bit of an acidity to the espresso. There is a nice chocolate and some caramel sweetness as this finishes roasty and dry with a light bitterness. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, a distinct coffee and chocolate stout with a bit of an odd sourness/acidity on the flavor up front. It does finish nicely once the weird sourness passes. If this had a better flavor up front, it could be much better. chibuck (3513) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 23, 2011
bottle... light watery brown, watery light tan head... this is a thin terrible beer, don’t bother Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 16, 2011
Bottled. Poured a not-at-all-lively deep brown with nothing going on for head. The aroma picked up sweeter, roasty espresso paired with vanilla, milk chocolate, and some rolled oats.. sweet overall and rather enjoyable. The flavor found sweeter coffee, chocolates, and vanilla throughout.. just a touch of odd medicinal stuff around (more pronounced as it warmed up).. coffee roast and sourness on the tacky finish. Medium-bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. a little too much odd sourness.. overall OK, but with some definite flaws. Strykzone (7555) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - SEP 22, 2011
Sampled at an esbls tasting. Quite dark with a light tan head. The nose is ashtray and coffee. The flavor is a mish mash thst just does not wirk. Coffee, dark fruit, earth. Unfortunate.

Dark brown coloured body, slightly muddy with absolutely no movement and a very sterile, placid enviornment - not too exciting here. Aroma of cherries, oak, alcohol, vanilla, mushrooms, meat and a bit of coffee - also not too exciting in the nose. Medium-bodied; Deep roasty and chocolate flavours with a lot of coffee, some light cherry and sweetness comes through as well as a touch of lactic flavours near the end. Aftertaste is pleasant, a little bit complex and having a touch of spice and oak along with the coffee overtones and sweetness. Overall, not a good looking or smelling beer but the flavours and aftertaste try to redeem the beer, although this isn’t a great beer by any means. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Beer Baron in Livonia, Michigan for US$2.39 on 30-April-2011 sampled at home in Washington after having a family reunion from my family in Michigan on 06-August-2011. Bottle shared by a friend. Had this once before prior to my rating days and it was infected and gross, so not terribly optimistic this time around. Darkest brown pour with a thin beige head. Aroma of espresso, cream and malt with a slight vegetal character. Malty and chocolatey flavor with espresso flavor before a semi-sweet finish. Certainly better than the first time I had it. On tap at the brewpub in December 2009. Reviewed from notes.
Pours near black with a thin mocha head and not much of any lacing on the way down. Nose brings a decent amount of overly roasted espresso with hints of chocolate. Taste is about the same, as the espresso carries a bit of good flavor but nothing else really backs it up. Feel is medium. Drinks okay but not one of the better coffee beers, and not one of my favorites here.

I got-a stop drinking these brews I hate them! Some people thing that beer and coffee go together but my taste buds say no. Poured thick black gust like granny used to make her coffee on the Beverly Hillbillys. Aromas of stale coffee grounds. Malty taste of coffee on the finish. not my stlyle but as these coffee stouts go Just like the rest. so I guess that is good so I gave it an average score Petkus331 (389) - Redford, Michigan, USA - JUL 17, 2010
Brew some coffee, have it sit there two days, and then pour some water in the coffee, and wallah! You have espresso love; my only opinion of this beer is that it should be left in the store for hippies who love to drink coffee piss. Arbor brewing does other beers well, but this isn’t even a strikeout, Arbor brewing threw the game. Boooooooooooooooooooo. If you have in the fridge pawn it off to grandma.
