On tap at the brewpub in December 2009. Reviewed from notes.
Pours near black with a thin mocha head and not much of any lacing on the way down. Nose brings a decent amount of overly roasted espresso with hints of chocolate. Taste is about the same, as the espresso carries a bit of good flavor but nothing else really backs it up. Feel is medium. Drinks okay but not one of the better coffee beers, and not one of my favorites here.

10 ounce draught mug at the brewpub on June 19, 2007. Opaque dark chocolate, a whisper of foam dies quickly...thankfully, this is not served on nitro, as....the wonderful aroma might have suffered: one of the more intense coffee noses I’ve experiences, yet creamy-sweet like a latte, or maybe a mocacchino with marzipan, chocolate, vanilla and caramel and yes, even some faint "beery" malts; astounding....on the tongue, it’s not as impressive, obviously not as full as it could be, but there’s always a nice interplay between the strong but smooth java character and the dark sweetish roasty malts, caramelized beautifully....low carbonation, a touch watery, not syrupy at all though it never becomes exactly dry, either. emacgee (4711) - Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA - DEC 13, 2007
Thanks dra19. Pours a dark thin brew with a profuse creamy tan head. Acted bottle conditioned. The head broke down incredibly easily. The aroma is roasty, coffee, chocolate, swirling releases a lot of carbonation. The flavor is smooth, roasty, kind of sour, coffee, a bit thin in the mouth, sweet, has some interesting qualities. The palate is a bit thin and very carbonated. Interesting brew, I enjoyed it. jsquire (4662) - St. Marys, Ohio, USA - MAY 12, 2013
Dark beer out of the bottle with ruby highlights when held against the light. This poured with an uncontrollable brown head and was way overcarbonated until I beat out some of the bubbles. Chalky, bitter chocolate nose. Some thin caramel sweetness, bitter coffee, over ripe fruit and dusty chocolate. Very lively on the tongue. There is an odd sourness in this. Not as rich as I had hoped. LilBeerDoctor (4229) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 30, 2010
Bottle. Pours black with a small tan head that recedes rapidly. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt and grains, bitter chocolate, sweet malt. Flavor of sweet malt up front, some coffee but it is faint, with roasted malt in the finish. Palate is smooth and creamy. This one lacks a strong espresso presence, but it is a tasty stout.

12 oz bottle. The pour is a ruby-ish dark brown that has a humongous, nearly uncontrollable head. The head fades pretty quick and doesn’t leave any lace. The aroma is big coffee. There is a light roast and come caramel notes. The flavor is like wet coffee grounds. There is a little dryness. And the feel is very thin. The finish is absolutely not what I’d expect in a stout ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone HonkeyBra (4044) - Lemont, Illinois, USA - AUG 15, 2008
UPDATED: OCT 9, 2008 There is no excuse for this. Black pour, but incredibly thin body for a stout. Otherwise, a light coffee aroma and a pour, sour, stale coffee taste. The finish has a terrible sour taste. Why the would waste their time selling and marketing such a poor product, i have no idea. Headbanger (4022) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - JUL 24, 2009
12oz bottle 7/24/09 (Siciliano’s Market-Grand Rapids)-Pours a dark brown almost black with a small tan head. Aroma of coffee, malt, and slight chocolate. Taste of malt, slight bitterness, and slight tart. Tastes like it is infected. This medium to full bodied brew is another so so brew from these guys.

Dark brown with a mammoth brown head that fades in chunks as quick as can be leaving no real lace. Aroma of molasses, caramel, coffee, roasted grains, chocolate and coffee. Taste of uh, infection. Roasted malt, sour off-putting notes, light cherry and mild coffee. Finishes up dry, acidic and a bit chalky. Huhzubendah (3775) - Washington DC, USA - MAR 24, 2014
Bottle gifted by Adam. Far out.
The beer is near black with a thin beige cap that quickly fades to a thin layer. Aromas of espresso, coffee beans, chocolate, molasses, dark fruits. Nice flavor. Not in the upper tier of its class, but still enjoyable. The body is a tad thin. Strong coffee presence. Light bitterness in the finish. Overall, pretty good.
