The Jackhammer is a very dark brown ale with a nice reddish hue. Offering a welcome warming sensation, it has a rich malty sweetness. Fruity esters, expected in this style beer, add to the already complex palate and help to provide an immensely satisfying experience!

Bottle shared with koleminer20 out of Dumpster Day box #1. Aroma is caramel, toffee, sugar, metallic, the metal is pretty overwhelming. Appearance is dark brown, light tan head, poured thin. Taste is metallic, lots of that, followed with caramel, toffee, malt. Mouthfeel is medium body and light carbonation, with a very metallic aftertaste. Overall, if this wasn’t so metallic it wouldn’t be half bad.

Dark brown color; dark enough that it’s hard to tell if it’s clear or cloudy; sparse light tan head. Aroma is malty, mostly bread and a touch of caramel. Hops are pretty subdued. Sweet with mild bitterness. Medium bodied; slightly oily texture; average to just a bit soft carbonation; finish is moderate length, sweet and bready. Overall it’s not bad, but pretty sweet and simple.

12oz bottle, thanks to Michael. Nice chocolate up front, good earthy hop, some caramel. Mild roast. Medium to bigger body, decent full feel. Lighter carbonation. Mild slick texture. Very dark red brown color. Ring of bubbly khaki head, some small bits of lace. Moderate sweet taste, light to moderate bitter, pleasant touch of heat. Plum, raisin in the finish. Smooth, tasty old ale. Satisfying to enjoy with my sandwich, but a bit sweet on it’s own.

12 ounce bottle into snifter, no bottle dating. Pours fairly crystal clear dark reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense and fluffy light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of caramel, toast, toffee, dark bread, brown sugar, raisin, plum, cherry, pear, apple, light chocolate, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted/bready malt, fruity/earthy yeast, and earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, toast, toffee, dark bread, brown sugar, chocolate, raisin, plum, cherry, pear, apple, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Fair amount of earthy herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, toffee, dark bread, chocolate, brown sugar, raisin, plum, cherry, pear, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted/bready malt, fruity yeast, and earthy hop flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, fairly creamy/bready, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming lingering after the finish. Overall this is a very good old ale style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted/bready malt, fruity yeast, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Bottle shares by Adam. Thanks man. Hazy yellow body with soft white head. Aromas include lemons, hops, crackers. Bitter hops with lemony, tart citrus and a tangy finish. Pretty good.

Pour on tap at the brewery, dark reddish brown pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of caramel, toffee, dark sugars, hints of bready notes, dark fruit into some woody notes, hints of vanilla in there as well. Taste is a mix of dark fruit, caramel, toffee, hints of sweet caramelized sugars into some grass, bread, dough, some vanilla, finishing sweet. Pretty decent.

Several bottles in various glasses over the years. Heavy malt sweetness without being syrupy. Mild hops. A very good Old Ale.

Pours a dark ruby with a huge khaki head. Very carbonated. Great aroma, dark fruit mixed with roasty malt. Taste starts sweet (caramel, fruit, sugar) and ends bitter with slight booze. The alcohol is hidden well though, but you can feel it. Very well balanced from beginning to end. This is one of the best winter warmers I’ve had. Must try.
