The Jackhammer is a very dark brown ale with a nice reddish hue. Offering a welcome warming sensation, it has a rich malty sweetness. Fruity esters, expected in this style beer, add to the already complex palate and help to provide an immensely satisfying experience!

Hophead22 (2879) - Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA - OCT 11, 2011
12oz bottle. Rating #47. Extremely murky and dense dark brown with a light beige head. Light fruity aroma and a little sweetness. Toasty flavor, caramelly and a bit of a light roasts bitter finish. Pretty decent. (1936)

Silphium (3199) - Traverse City, Michigan, USA - OCT 8, 2011
On tap at Crunchy’s, East Lansing. Deep translucent red-brown body, medium tight cream head. Nose of grape, brown sugar, and toast, sweet and somewhat bitter. Leathery, boozy body with grape, caramel, brown sugar, toast, and hints of butterscotch. Strong but boring.

strongpieman (1651) - Mount Airy, Maryland, USA - JUL 29, 2011
Draft. I did not enjoy this one as much as expected, primarily because the alcohol permeated through which overwhelmed. I was surprised because this is not that strong in %.

BAMF (78) - Albion, Michigan, USA - OCT 30, 2010
Dark red black brown opaque with an off white good head, Aroma is malt and fruit with a taste of caramel and coffee gotta be honest though getting a bit hammered from all the other beers I’ve been testing, Good but not as good as the others. Thin mouth feel.

Bottle. First observation is that this is one of those incredible pain in the ass beers that just won’t fit in a glass. First pour results in a half an inch of liquid at the very bottom of the glass, the rest is fluffy beige foam. Five minutes later and I have forced most of the beer into the glass, but I’m a little sick of the whole experience at this point. The final product is a glass with half foam, half liquid... a nice brownish red hue and nice highlighting. Aromas are unimpressive... a kind of apple and pear juice mixed together with a touch of caramel and soap. Flavor is much better than the rough start we got off to. It has a pretty nice peat flavor to it, which compliments the fruity sweetness well and helps bridge it to the alcoholic warmth. It still has a bit of a soapy feel to it, though, and in the aftertaste I pick it up from time to time. This is a pretty hot (alcohol) beer with a smooth and slightly viscous feel on the palate.
