COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, dark, complex, full-bodied porter with hints of dark chocolate, raisins, black licorice, and currents on the palate, and a smoky, sour finish. Unlike conventional ales which go from fermenter to serving tank fully carbonated and under pressure, cask ales leave the fermenter flat, and are transferred to a cask along with unfermented malt. In the cask, the ale goes through a secondary fermentation which leaves it gently carbonated. Stored and hand pulled at cellar temperature (53 - 58 degrees).

Cask --- good porter, pretty mild flavors, but drinks well. Deep color, with tan head. Not as rich as Founders, good balanced brew.

On cask at the brewpub. Pours black with a thick tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, raisins, but mostly roasted and smoky notes. Flavor of smooth chocolate and roasted malt. It has a chalky and smooth palate. An interesting cask porter. 7/5/8/4/14 [3.8/5]

Draft at brewpub. Pours black with a creamy light brown head that diminishes. Lighter side of medium bodied with a soft carbonation and smooth, silky mouthfeel. Favor of chocolate, mild roast coffee, and berry. Nice balance of residual sweetness and bitterness. Slight tang on the finish. Very nice

Cask at the brewpub. Poured black with a medium brown head. Aroma was full of malts, with chocolate and licorice present. Flavor was full of dark chocolate notes with a bit of raisin underneath, but dont pick up and sourness as in the description.

From the Jug at the GABF Colorado Convention Center, Denver 10/10/2008 Vanilla aroma. Black strong in alcohol and a little rich on the palate. Fruity with a crisp and slightly dry coffee roast finish.

On cask at the brewpub. Pours dark brown to black with a bubbly brown head. Aromas of dark roasty coffee and cocoa. Flavor is similar, with roasted coffee and dark cocoa, lots of roasty bitterness. Medium bodied, but with a watery mouthfeel. Nice flavors, but boring palate.

On cask at the brewery. Opaque black with small tan head. Aroma is roasty with slight roast and sourness and a little alc. Flavor is off-dry roast, slight sourness, not bad. Medium body, lightly syrupy. Pretty great, gerrit, you would love this.

From 10-Beer Flight at Arbor Brewing Company Brewpub on December 1, 2008. Lovely lacing! Black, even darker with a much sweeter aroma than their Irish Stout. Silky palate, very easy going down. Very resinous and sweet. Good, but has an odd aftertaste. Sour.

A great porter! Dark chocolate kicks in, but it quickly melts into coffee. Deep, roasted flavor combines well with an excellent thick and creamy body. Finish is a bit of alcohol, but mostly fruit, bread crust.
