Bought this as a single at Craft Beer Cellar in Grand Rapids, MI. CBC needs to be spanked heartily for selling such an old DIPA. I bought this based solely on the cool name and a "let’s try some new IPAs totally blind" attitude. Luckily it turned out to be halfway decent. Date bottled? 11/26/2016 - CBC, shame on you for selling an 8-month old DIPA!!
OK, now for the beer. It’s quite sweet, but has just enough bitterness to balance it pretty damn well, especially considering how old this is. I’m surprised that it’s this decent at 8 months old and it has a 74 rating from people tasting it fresh. I would definitely try this fresh, though we don’t get Arbor in Chicago, so likely won’t have the chance. cheap (5913) - Beaver Valley, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 21, 2016
This looks like a big thick hoppy brown beer with little chunks floating around in it in a kind of oily way. These chunks, that you would expect to go to the bottom don’t, they just hang round in thar. Smell is nearly sickly perfumy sweet thick hops. In the mouth, this is a big thick bitter hoppy volatile tasting beer as well. Cannot appreciate the way this stuff gets in yer face, and then, knocks you dizzy silly. Terribly terribly on style. If you love strong american over the top IPA strong ale (did I say strong?) ruff riden american stronger ale, you need to try this. I bet it would be like sherry if you let it age a decade. Bottle from Sidney OH Marathon station pour hazy copper with moderate ecru head and lots of suspended floaters. Nose lightly dank, some vegetal, sweet malt. Taste moderate bitter bite up front, then apple, fruit hop, dank, and moderate sweet malt. Light bitter finish. Being an Ohio State fan, I am duty bound to not rate this too high. On tap at Ashley’s in Westland, MI. Hazy copper pour with white head and lots of sticky lacing. Sweet fruity aroma. Brown sugar candy and a nice hoppy bitterness. Delicious. Daytonbeer (730) - Ohio, USA - APR 1, 2016
Pours orangish red with off white head and light lacing. Aroma of caramel candy apple with extreme bitter citrus & grass. Taste is the same with malty backbone that has a bite. Need alittle better balance, but stil drinkable/enjoyable. Go Bucks! rondphoto (4468) - Lakeside Park, Kentucky, USA - DEC 27, 2015
bottle @ Chief Market / Lima OH --- Hazy amber brown color, beige head cover, lace curtain. Strong caramel malt that adds carbonation on the swallow, followed by a jolt of solid citrus hops. In all of this the malt never gets lost, growing into a long finish. Big, but a very satisfying brew. DialSquare (5068) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - AUG 28, 2015
12oz bottle from Andersons on Talmadge: copper-brown pour with thin off-white and a ring of bubbles. aroma of booze, burnt sugar, citrus. tastes are sweet sticky caramel malt, burnt vibe, herbal, honey, bread. strangely watery and heavy palate. not as awful as it sounds, but a sweet rough sipper at best.
